Bryan Cranston was never approached to play Lex Luthor in Batman V Superman

Bryan Cranston Lex Luthor Banner

Although those rumors about Bryan Cranston being cast as Lex Luthor in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE obviously didn't pan, some believe that the actor was at the very least being considered for the role, and may have been contacted by Warner Bros. and DC about possibly playing the villain. Cranston was asked about those rumors during MTV's interview with the actor at SDCC, and he says he was never in talks to play Luthor.

Not one conversation, it was all fan-driven. They're thinking, 'Who could play Lex Luthor? Who's bald who could be menacing? Oh, Walter White, we can get that guy!' So, it's like, that's not very inspiring casting...

Yeah, it wouldn't have been inspiring casting, however I think we can all agree that he would have made one hell of a Lex Luthor. But I'm definitely interested in seeing Jesse Eisenberg's take on the character, and if he's up for it, maybe Bryan Cranston will one day land a sweet comic book movie role. Is there a comic book character you think he should play?

Bryan Cranston can be seen next in Jay Roach's TRUMBO on November 6, 2015, BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE hits theaters on March 25, 2016.

How about Jim Gordon? He already did his voice.

This doesn't surprise me at all. As a fan of Jesse Eisenberg, I seem to be in the minority that finds him the most intriguing part of Batman v. Superman. I've never seen him play a full-on villain. He's not the guy I would've cast. But I like him as an actor, and I get annoyed by people who haven't watched anything he's made since Zombieland.

Who cares about "inspiring casting"?

You cast for the role. Period. You find someone who can physically own the role as well as psychologically or as an actor. Missed opportunity.

If they reboot the X-Men with the character in the timeline, I always thought Cranston could do a very good Senator Kelly.

Is there a comic book character he could play. Off the top of my head, Sinestro.

I disagree. Giving that role to Mark Strong was one of the few highlights of the GREEN LANTERN movie.

Now everyone can shut up with their awful "Heisenberg not Eisenberg" campaign. I adore Bryan but the studio clearly wants Lex to be a long running crossover character, and Bryan is touching 60. I find it ironic that fans bitched for years about the studio casting older actors for Lex, and the moment they cast a 30 year old instead of a 60 year old, they all collectively cried out in terror.

I love Joaquin, and I think he would've been great, but he'd never agree to a multi film contract.

Would gladly have taken him as DCCU's Lex Luthor instead of Eisenberg. At least we know Cranston can actually act and play more than one persona of a character unlike Eisenberg. So yes, I while have gladly taken Walter White as the next, new Lex.

So you'd essentially want Cranston to play the same role on film as he did in a TV series? You don't want a fresh take at all? And what proof do you need from Eisenberg? He has an Academy Award Nomination. Why don't you actually watch some of his work.

How the hell would it be the same role? And Eisenberg plays every character the same way he always does. The guy has no range whatsoever.

"I will have gladly taken Walter White as the new Lex"

Your words, pal. You said you wanna see Walt as Lex, not Cranston.
