Bryan Singer announces X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters in 2016

Dec. 5, 2013by:

Well, holy shit, I didn't see this coming. I mean I knew it was coming, but I didn't expect the announcement to come this soon. In this day and age where superhero movies are the bread and butter for studios, they have to make sure to make a splash. Whether it be at San Diego Comic Con where we learned the AGE OF ULTRON title or that BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN is coming in 2015, a line must be drawn so that they can guarantee droves will turn out for their films.

As fans warm up more and more to X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST via the trailer and photos from the movie, the question of what is next for the X-MEN franchise is being answered. Bryan Singer tweeted the following just this afternoon:

The Wrap also confirms that Singer's tweet is the title of the next film. X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will be hitting theaters on May 27, 2016 which puts it right between an untitled Marvel movie on May 6, 2016 and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 on June 10th, 2016.

Marvel fans know that Apocalypse is a major villain in X-Men history and one that fans will be very excited to see on the big screen. But, this also raises a ton of questions: Will Bryan Singer be directing X-MEN: APOCALYPSE? Will this be a sequel with the original trilogy cast or the FIRST CLASS versions? Will we be getting two distinct series for the old and young characters going forward? The mind boggles at the possibilities.

What we do know is that X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is still coming on May 23, 2014 and will most assuredly feature some sort of credits tease for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.

Extra Tidbit: Did Singer announce this today just to take a dump on Sony's reveal of the trailer for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2?

Just let Apocalypse say these quotes and I JIZZ my pants!

"I am the rocks of the eternal shore... crash against me and be BROKEN!"

"I cannot be touched. I cannot be harmed. Watch me and tremble... for I bring the purity of oblivion to your world."

"I am as far beyond them as they are beyond YOU!!! I am the next step in human, mutant evolution. I am Apocalypse I am Eternal!"

Throw in some Shi'ar Empire, and I could die a happy man. But Rogue defiantly needs to start flying and get super strong so she can fuck Apocalypse up.

I wonder if these re-shoots Singer had done in Montreal has anything to do with possibly a cliffhanger ending for the Apocalypse movie. Would be pretty cool if the X-Men thwart his first attack, then Apocalypse is used for the X-Force movie where Cable has to stop him.

Two words: Cliffhanger ending. X-Men: Days of Future Past will directly lead into X-Men: Apocalypse. The most logical third movie in the series would be X-Men / Fantastic Four: Days of Future Present.

Competion

Perhaps the best aspect of this. Healthy competion for Marvel (and Warner DC).

Like everyone else has said this is awesome enough that I really can't do it justice with a single comment

I'll just say that now that the Sentinels and Apocalypse have gotten their due as long as I see Mr. Sinister at some point I will be totally happy, and they ever bring in Shadow King that will just be bonus points.

sounds good.....to be surely followed by Age of Apocolypse

But please do justice to Archangel and Gambit. Ben Foster was HORRIBLE as Angel and the version of Gambit from Wolverine sucked Asteroids. These are great characters and deserve so much better. Lets see it.

Finally! I've been hoping for an Apocalypse appearance. Properly executed this could be the best X-Men film yet. I can't wait to see this.

So awesome...IF they don't ruin Apocalypse. Holy God, let it be good. Also, I thought the voice from the X-Men cartoon a long time ago was absolutely perfect.

Ralph Fiennes, Benedict Cumberbatch, or Jeremy Irons for Mr.Sinister, or his voice at least. Just hearing him speak in either of those tones will send chills down my spine and goosebumps up my arm!

Awesome, Amazing, Astounding

Thank you to the movie gods for letting this happen. X-Men needs a spark...and Apocalypse is it. Please, Fox, do him the right way. Casting is crucial here, along with costume and make-up. And while you're perfecting the look for Apocalypse, why not go ahead and make ALL the costumes consistent with the uniforms from the comic books and TV show?! Christopher Lee for Apocalypse!

Or, for his voice at least. I kinda wish they had kept this big reveal for the movie. Imagine watching it and finding out that Apocalypse will be the next big baddie. It would have been like seeing The Joker's card in Batman Begins, or Thanos in Avengers kind of epic! Still, I'm pretty f*cking excited right now! It's a great time to be a superhero fan.

Yes! This is amazing news for the Xmen universe. Obviously this has been in Singers mind for some time if they're able to get this movie going right after Days of Future Past. Whatever course he goes with Apocalypse, he has to show a back story to him being born in Egypt and that he is the first mutant ever. Oh, and bring Matthew Vaughn back to help co-write the script.

This is amazing news. We are finally getting some of the best things about the X-Men in these next couple of films. Sentinels in Days of Future Past and now Apocolypse in the next film with hopefully Mr. Sinister making an appearance. And I hope they use both casts again somehow since both casts are too good not to use in a film like this.

Which X-Men??

We are living in a comic book movie golden age!!

Personally I'm torn. First class was great and the actors top notch, but the original series didn't have Apocalypse yet, so wouldn't that creatively rule out first class unless there was a time travel element?
Any ideas on how that would work?

Remember a decade ago when critics were writing off comic-book movies as a fad that would quickly come and go? Yeah, where are they now?

People rant about The Dark Knight changing the way we look at comic book movies forever, but truthfully, The Avengers has had just as much of an impact on how these studios are operating. We have Sony attempting to create a universe from Spider-Man by announcing three sequels, you have Fox attempting to make a cinematic universe from X-Men and Fantastic Four, and you have DC (finally) attempting to assemble everyone! This is an excellent time to be both a comic-book and movie fan!!

Most definitely, and what's awesome is that all four studios have enough properties where they really could have their own self-contained universes:

Sony: Without stretching things too much Spider-Man, Venom, Black Cat and perhaps Morbius and The Prowler could each get their own films.

Fox: They've really lucked out because they could have an X-Men Universe with Modern Age X-Men, First Class X-Men, X-Force, Solo Wolverine films, Solo Cable films, Solo Deadpool films and potentially solo

They could almost have a second universe with Fantastic Four spin-off characters too. We know they still have the rights to Silver Surfer, but since Fox has been able to get away with using characters that Marvel might also have potential claim to such as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch it makes me wonder if Fox could get away with using Fantastic Four centric characters like Namor. In which case they really could build two distinct but connected universes almost like how Marvel is doing with The Avengers and The Defenders.

Then of course Marvel and DC have too many properties at their disposal to list.

Dwayne Johnson for Apocalypse

Either Dwayne Johnson or Laurence Fishburne (voice at least) for Apocalypse.
Those are my choices BUT they were influenced from other sites so I am not the original person to state it, but those are solid choices.

Marvel got their act together...long overdue, may I add...and then Sony and Fox reassessed their assets they had...and up'd their game. WB's are getting a beat down from not only the Real McCoy but pretenders that hold assets that belong to said Real McCoy. It was all so different in the 70s and 80sWBs spat in the faces of Marvels mediocre efforts. Clearly they didn't think they might become a casualty if they were to let standards slip. Despite Nolans efforts, in Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, Cat Woman, Green Lantern and Superman Returns, things have get worse for them. I was hugely disappointed with the Man of Steel but to many it seems like a return to the right direction Im not so sure but hoped to be proved wrong. With the more than lukewarm reaction to the recent WW casting (Im okay with it, for the record), forget Marvel Studios, WBs look like theyre playing catch up with Sony and Fox.

they aren't formal Marvel properties; if they were former properties Marvel wouldn't make any money off of them and there would be nothing genius about it. they are properties that Marvel continue to own.

beyond that, the entire point of the movie deals that Marvel signed with Fox and Sony 10 years plus ago was to increase the visibility and interest in Marvel's properties. if Sony and Fox weren't making these movies, Marvel would be, so there really is nothing genius about it beyond the

I cannot describe how happy this announcement makes me. I'm not even a huge fan of the character Apocaylpse but i love the story that surrounds him. I just knew that they couldn't wrap everything up in just one movie. This is seriously the best thing to happen to this franchise. I can't believe that I'm actually going to see an Age of Apocalypse story on the big screen. The ten year old me is alive again!

It looks like they are in Egypt for DoFP. Im sure we will get a lil bit of info while they are there. As far as the storyline, im sure they will roll with the Living Monolith storyline, only because it would be easier to film than the one where Magneto is married to Rogue and hes leading the XMen (though that one was my all time favorite comic book story)
