Last week we caught wind that Ben Hardy (EastEnders) would be playing Angel in Bryan Singer's upcoming X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, and one look at the guy would tell you that it felt right. However, we finally have confirmation from the man himself, who was goodly enough to share that bit of news as well as some concept art that hints are a dark future for the beloved mutant.

Bryan Singer on Ben Hardy's role:

Ben Hardy is Angel – I shall confirm it for you! But he’s not a very nice Angel! And that’s all I’ll say…

Any X-Men fan is familiar with Angel's dark turn into Archangel, and I'd say we'll see some sort of variation of that in Singer's film. Angel joins the growing list of new mutants in Apocalypse, which will include Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac). They'll of course be backed up by Prof. X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), and Beast (Nicholas). How's that for an X-Men line-up!

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will hit theaters on May 27, 2016.

Well, it is kind of hard to continue complaining about costumes they didn't listen to us about in 2000 and have continued to use for 15 years.

just a bit rich for someone who clearly loves these films crying over how little FF is sticking to the source.

Yeah, I guess that is kind of funny. But I'm in his camp on this one. X-Men is a 15 year old franchise. At this point we can either keep bitching or roll with it. FF is in development, so why not make our displeasure with direction known while it's still in it's formative stages. Yeah, the X movies fucked up some character ages and back stories, but nothing was too heinously changed (Well, just Rogue, until you get to the abortions that are Origins and The Last Stand, anyway.) But the

But the characters in X-Men felt like those characters to me. The tone of the ostracized minority was always present. The school aspect was always present. It was consistent with the source material with some change. Everything I have seen from FF is consistent with Chronicle with some change, and not the Fantastic Four. So yeah, I'm gonna keep bitching about FF until it comes out and either A) Proves me right and dies it's horrible death or B) makes me sit down and shut up and eat my words, much like X2, First Class and DOFP have done.

The wings look awesome, but can we please get some color in these costumes. Can't batman be the only one who works in black and really really dark grey!

Yeah. Not digging the all black costumes. It's getting old. hopefully, this is just concept art and the final product will mix in some purples and reds link the comic.

Have you seen the past few movies? In DOFP they didn't even wear costumes outside of the future scenes where based on the continuity, they would be wearing more dark costumes. In First Class they wore the oldschool blue/yellow costumes, and Magneto has had reddish versions of his costume in both.

Wasn't impressed with the costumes in X-Men either, and I have yet to be really impressed with the costuming. The First Class look was better, and more fun looking. The DoFP looks were a bit of a wild card, with some people not wearing actual costumes.... But I didn't hate it. Still not exactly impressed, either. But I like this look for the aesthetic they seem to be favoring with these movies. I'd love to see the franchise rebooted and the look retooled after this next wave of films is

Looks pretty badass

I assume these are going to be his wings coming out of his back rather than mechanical ones which it kinda seems like.

I love the X-Men film-series! It has a lot of great virtues...

...but consistency is not one of them.

The "inconsistency" of the x-men films is overblown. Some things have been answered already, and some more things will probably be answered in Apocalypse. Some things, for example why Moira is still young in X3, can be interpreted however you see fit. I personally believe that the Moira in X3 is actually the granddaughter of Moira in first class who was given her grandmothers name (a more common practice than you think). Unless they give an explanation about Moira in Apocalypse, that's the

Unless they give an explanation about Moira in Apocalypse, that's the story I'm sticking to. Or in the case of how is Angel a teenager in the time frame of Apocalypse when he was also in X3 - well, you can easily argue that X3 is only 15 years after the time Apocalypse takes place thus making Angel around 30 in X3, which is plausible. It just means the opening scene with Angel in X3 was 20 years previous, not 10.
