Bryan Singer is expecting almost all of the original X-Men to return for Days of Future Past

Dec. 6, 2012by: Alex Maidy

So, it looks like Bryan Singer becoming director of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is going to reap some rewards for fans of the original films. The Hollywood Reporter claims that actors like Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and more are willing to take less money and screen time to make the project work because Singer is behind the camera.

As fans of the comic know, DAYS OF FUTURE PAST follows some of the X-Men into a dystopian future ruled by Sentinels where mutants are hunted and killed. Because of this time travel element, Fox has the perfect opportunity to straddle two film franchises and combine them into one.

Word has it that the original film stars will primarily appear in the future scenes while the 1960s cast featuring Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, and Michael Fassbender will remain in their timeline. The extent of the two casts interacting outside of Wolverine remains to be seen.

This means that we have at least a small chance of seeing James Marsden as Cyclops and Halle Berry as Storm. While I would be fine with not seeing Jubilee or Gambit, I would have no issue with them showing up as well. The more the series can become a cohesive franchise, the better it will be for fans.

What original trilogy X-Men would you like to see show up in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST>

Extra Tidbit: Keep Taylor Kitsch the f*ck away from this project.

COOL (NB: Possible SPOILERS)

First of all, if Nightcrawler comes back, he won't be played by Cummings who's been VERY CLEAR on the fact that he DON'T want to be in a Singer directed movie EVER AGAIN !

DoFP being about Senator Kelly assassination in the comics, the story line can't be adapted without MAJOR changes...

I hope we will have RACHEL SUMMERS and FRANKLIN RICHARDS (Fantastic Four's Reed and Susan Richard's son... FF being own by Fox as well)...

And I'm happy with this news even if it means more Alle 'I

Please bring colossus into this. he was so good in the whole 30 secs of screen time in x2, it didn't even bother me that he wasn't russian. x3 was unfortunately a complete waste of time for everyone involved including the audience. hopefully marsden comes back for this one. he just frigging epitomized cyclops it isn't even funny. i could care less about halle berry. nightcrawller would be good too, and why not an adult havok? he didn't exactly impress me in first class but with singer doing

Am I the only one that feels like this could possibly be a backwards step for X-Men? I mean, I love Singer, but Vaughn's take was so much edgier. And right. I was super excited to see a younger Magneto (especially as Fassbender) duke it out and be given a treatment closer to the books. But now I feel like the show's been hijacked slightly.

With Vaughn at the helm I was interested in this movie. With Singer, I feel another action-less movie coming on (since Singer can't do action scenes to save his life). And before someone pulls an X2 out of their ass as 'proof', remember that other than the opening scene, the movie had zero action scenes.

Not to mention that X3 was Singer's script, and we all saw how badly that turned out. Even though X3 was still more watchable than Superstalker Returns.

So, the assault on the mansion, the Blackbird vs. fighter jets, the standoff with cops, Wolverine vs. Deathstrike, and the whole dam bit were what, exactly?

Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn wrote X3, NOT Bryan Singer. The only similarity between their ideas was using the Dark Phoenix saga.

Actually. Vaughn was responsible for the X3 script. He was the original director. The story followed his ideas (he said that he wanted to toughen up the X-Men). The script was written under his guidance. Ratner came in at the last minute and shot the very same script Vaughn was going to use.

Did we actually see any action in any of those scenes you mentioned? No. I saw Jackman fly through the air on wires down at some guys, heard some guys scream off camera, and that was it. Blackbird vs jets?!? Are you seriously calling that CGI crapfest an action scene?!? Jackman vs. Kelly Hu was the same boring 30 second fight scene we saw from the first movie only with Hu in place of the dumb wrestler that played Sabretooth (badly). Add up your three 'action' scenes, and you'll get two minutes

Add up your three 'action' scenes, and you'll get two minutes total out of a two hour movie. That's pathetic. Almost as pathetic as the Singer apologists who still back him after all the boring movies he's made, AND the one franchise he killed for a while (Superman, in case you're clueless).

Kinberg and Penn wrote the script for X3 from Singer's story ideas. Singer had final say on the completed script. Considering it was his production until he jumped ship to WB, with only two months to go until principal photography begin. That's why Vaughn (who originally had replaced Singer to direct X3)jumped ship too when he realized he couldn't change anything.

Singer was NEVER on board X3. He left long before a script was ever written, or a story was ever decided on. Vaughn had been director since day one. The script was written under Vaughn. The leaked first draft credited Vaughn with Kinberg and Penn. Vaughn is ALWAYS involved in the screenplays for his movies, just like he was on First Class & Days of Future Past.

I read an interview where Singer claims that he wanted X3 to end with the return of Jean Grey to set up The Dark Phoenix for a 4th

I read an interview where Singer claims that he wanted X3 to end with the return of Jean Grey to set up The Dark Phoenix for a 4th film, but the studio wanted to end their "trilogy" with the Dark Phoenix so that they could expand the franchise to focus on Wolverine & Origins for other characters.

Singer was working on a script with Zack Pen (I believe) that would have used the Dark Phoenix saga from the comics complete with the Hellfire Club. Singer even said he wanted Sigorney Weaver to play Frost. When Singer left to work on Superman Returns, Singer's plans were scrapped and new people were brought in, including Vaughn, ironically enough, who approved an early version of the X-Men 3 script that had Magneto breaking into Alcatraz to get Mystique. Ratner changed the scrip so that

Ratner changed the scrip so that Alcatraz was now being used as a medical facility where they were manufacturing the cure, which is neither here nor there because Alcatraz isn't a prison anymore but a tourist attraction.

Anyway, when X-Men 3 was a disappointment he managed to convince the people at Fox to let him come back and work on X-Men First Class and that turned out much better than X-Men 3 so Fox and Singer appear to be on good terms again and there's the possibility that X-Men 3 will be retconned out of continuity due to this time travel story. I do hope they bring in younger actors to play Scott and Jean and maybe Franke Jansen (sp?) and James Marstars (sp?) can make cameo appearances at the end to show that the timeline has been altered for the better.

I do like how Marvel is trying and allowing all this intertwining of franchises. This movie can go either way so I am gonna just hope for the best. Although I did enjoy X3, I too kinda hope this movie erases that timeline.

I couldn't agree more. I had never heard of Taylor Kitsch before he did Gambit in Wolverine but the way he couldn't keep a Cajun accent turned my stomach and made an already-bad movie even worse. They need to recast that role STAT!

I have a feeling that Professor X will take the place of Kitty. X3 established that Professor X's consciousness is still alive. Considering that the 'Days of Future Past" is a story about a person's consciousness traveling through time, this seems like the most logical way to go about it.

The story is also about saving Senator Kelly, so maybe they will have to stop the events in the first X-Men movie where Kelly dies. Or perhaps stop the events in X3 so that Mystique keeps her powers and

Singer can go either way

I'm still on the fence with this. It's about time this story got done. The cartoon used Bishop and the Comic used Kitty through a psychic connection. Lot's of ways to go and you can really get creative with it. I would like to see Bishop, I can think of a lot of guys who could do it, I like Dwayne Johnson or Idris Elba. We'll see...

This fuck cant...

or wont adapt this properly. Motherfucker, if you read this, just stick to the motherfucking story arc, keep you "artistic" touch to a fucking minimum. He could not get a fucking indestructible, breath freezing, eye laser shootin, flying alien right, and all you have to do is have that guy beat the fuck out of someone who can take it. Do you think he could get a cross time story arc with major death and mayhem? I fucking hope so, but judging by past efforts i know he'll fuck this up too. This

Not likely since X3 was Singer's shitty script. Ratner had no time to rewrite it, given that he was hired only three weeks prior to when principal filming started (ie. that means all the sets were built for the scenes already in the script).

Lies. Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn wrote it. Singer isn't even a writer. Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty would have wrote it had Singer directed.

I'm down for the connecting of both xmen franchises, glad singer is back to take the reins, got a little worried when Vaughn left but now I'm back on board. I'm off to Netflix now to watch those episodes for some nostalgia.

i hope they use this movie as an opportunity to erase X3. like, pull a star trek and say that everything that happened in x-men 3 was in some retarded alternate universe. that would make me so happy.

I'm feeling confident again. I thought Vaughn leaving the project would be the kiss of death but a negative has a silver lining. For every lose, there is a gain.
