BURIED and RED LIGHTS director Rodrigo Cortes has climbed aboard DOWN A DARK HALL for Lionsgate, the studio announced today. Cortes’ BURIED writer Chris Sparling has also joined to work on the screenplay.

The film is based on the 1974 young adult best-seller from author Lois Duncan, who also wrote I Know What You Did Last Summer. (Additionally, she penned the novel Killing Mr. Griffin, which was adapted into TEACHING MRS. TINGLE by her biggest fan, Kevin Williamson.) Stephenie Meyer – of TWILIGHT infamy – is a producer.

The supernatural suspense novel follows Kit Gordy, the newest student at the exclusive Blackwood Boarding School. It is the opportunity of a lifetime, but Kit quickly realizes something strange is happening behind its walls as she confronts the darkly seductive powers of Blackwood’s headmistress and comes face to face with the supernatural powers that could make her great or destroy her.

No word on when production is set to commence.
