By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth! The Dr. Strange movie has a script in the works

Marvel’s master of the occult has cast the Eye of Agamotto on a pair of screenwriters — Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer are conjuring up a script for DR. STRANGE.

The outlandishly garbed sorcerer supreme is getting his own movie, one of the first Marvel projects under their huge new Disney deal. Hollywood’s latest favorite sons Donnelly and Oppenheimer recently worked on scripts for CONAN, the UNCHARTED movie, and Jon Favreau’s COWBOYS & ALIENS.

Marvel’s famous mystic is a surgeon named Stephen Strange whose career was destroyed by an accident that leaves him unable to operate. He traveled to the Far East to find an ancient entity he believed could repair his damages, but ends up becoming a disciple and later dedicates himself to using various incantations and artifacts to repel all sorts of supernatural evil.

The project has been in the works for years, with people like David Goyer and Guillermo del Toro once interested or involved. The character appeared in a hokey live-action TV movie in the 70s, and a more recent animated adventure.
