Marvel appears to have revealed a plot synopsis of sorts for THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA. While it could still ultimately deviate from this, it's nice to see that at least at this point, it looks like they're staying pretty close to the original mythos.

"Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment… Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the ‘Super-Soldier Serum’ and bombarded by ‘vita-rays.’ Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and leader of the Avengers."

So now the question is who will play ol' Cap. I still like Matt McConaughey but what the hell do I know. I lost a sizeable amount of my savings on the Oscars and Amy Ryan. I also bet on WALL-E to be the biggest earner this Summer. I am not the person for film-related predictions. What do I look like a freaking psychic??

I myself had suggested Mangold as an option for directing Cap. Depending on how Quantum of Solace goes, Forster would be another possibility. Ross too, but I'm not so sure Wright would be interested. Then again, he might decide to fall in Nolan's footsteps. Great suggestions!

Martin Campbell would be good though, and although it's tough to be certain with Blomkamp since he hasn't done a feature yet, if Peter Jackson trusts him enough to hand him Halo, then I'd probably trust him too.

2. Marc Forster
3. James Mangold
4. Gary Ross
5. Joe Wright

Ross especially needs to be handed a big budget comic or fantasy flick, and since he seems to gravitate toward period pieces, this seems like an especially nice fit.

i would really want someone who is used to directing inventive fast and kinetic action. i hope more detail and consideration is given to the cap's fight choreography as well, atleast more than TDK. I

I could imagine some CG enhanced Bourne style fights. it would be nice to see more elaboration on how they've portrayed the super soldier abilities so far in Incredible Hulk. From watching Kung Fu Hustle, I'm sure fights can be subtly enhanced with CG to that same degree but in a more serious context for cap, and be just as affecting. Oh man, and the shield, can't wait to see how they handle that thing being thrown.

I mean WWII only lasted six years (four for the U.S.) you wouldn't even have time to realistically age him. Keifer Sutherland - yeah I know he's probably too old - but he's younger than downey jr...obviously a teen or early 20 yr old actor would need to play the 'frail' Steve Rogers - but thats my vote anyway.

Actors in multiple superhero flicks
Aaron Eckhart has gone on record as saying he's interested in playing Green Lantern and Thomas Jane has shown interest in Jonah Hex, so yeah there's the chance they could do more comic films. However, I think WB would get pretty pissed if Eckhart decided to switch over to Marvel.

I always thought Brad Pitt was best choice for the Cap although he is too old now. The actor needs to be young enough to be of age to enlist so my choice is: Micheal Pitt. and i really wish people would stop suggesting actors for the role who have already appeared in other comic book movie roles, like Aaron Eckhart or Thomas Jane, it aint gonna happen.

But they need to get a director, a writer and an actor attached. I keep hearing the names being thrown around and I can't see any of them really cutting it. I still really think that this is a role that is tailor-made for Matt Damon. He's the kind of actor who is Bale-esque in his regimen for prepping a role. He could conceivably drop to around 130 lbs. for the pre-Rebirth stuff and bulk up

Matt Mc is just not the right type, actor-wise... and there's no way in hell that I'd be able to get around a southern accent for a kid from Brooklyn. Also, Bucky would need to be a part of this. Please, no Shia. Someone like Emile Hirsch would work. As for a director, I'm still not really sure.

And how about this for the ending... Cap and Bucky are trying to disarm the bomb headed for London and it blows up over the Atlantic and Cap sinks into the water... and post-credits, Stark and Fury find his frozen body.

According to Dave Davis in his article for Joblo: "Dragonball Trailer" he didn't think it was a problem that the main character was white instead of Asian, sooo...race shouldn't matter here.

I thought they would have set it in modern times but still cool. I'm all for McConaughey as Caps too. He's of the acting caliber(despite alot of his horrible script choices) and generation of Norton and Downey Jr, plus his career could REALLY use a pick-me-up. If they dont go with a no-name actor, then I like Adam Baldwin as Captain America (right size, age, and voice), with Martin Campbell (casino royale) to direct.

I think casting well known female lead like Hathaway would help offset the fact hat Duhamel's not a big name leading man.

DeadShot: Great ending, man. Dead on. Amazing film.

We need big names in this flick not some frickin dude from BattleStar Galatica. Wow dude stop with that. This film is going to need some Heavy Hitters. Leo (If his new film does well), Matt Damon, Brad Pitt even. If Kate Hudson is in Captain then im ok with Mcconahey or however you want to spell it.

Dont forget this film has to have a great Action Director behind the lens. That is Key.

I think they intentionally set the movie around WWII so by the end of the movie they'd have a place to set up The Avengers movie if they are really going to do it. As for Captain America, I'd say James Caviezel (do I spell his name right?) would very well fit for Cap. He just need to buff up a little bit more. But who would be The Red Skull?? I thought Iron Man worked so well as a movie because they updated the story to fit modern times. If anyone remembers, in the comics Tony Stark was injured during the Vietnam War and captured. But of course they changed it around so Tony would be injured and captured in the Middle

I really think Matt Damon would be an awesome choice for Cap. He has shown in the past that he can carry an action movie. Obviously I am referring to Bourne...

Has the [link] part of Cap's origin been abandoned or forgotten over the years? Just curious.

nah, seriously - josh duhamel or damon as the cap
besides matt damon, i dont think pitt, dicaprio or mcconaughey have that IT to make me believe they can be the greatest patriot & american soldier. i agree with what was said earlier, out of all of those guys i can only see damon prepping properly for the role. i would actually be excited about a damon as the cap, cuz i can imagine him alongside downey and norton and having great chemistry

...josh duhamel. dude has the voice, looks, jawline, presence, and no celebrity baggage or big star price tag (yet) either - and you know how much that can possibly detract from the role for alot of viewers, fans and casual movie goers alike. duhamel would be a practical choice and just an all around suitable casting for steve rogers. at no time in transformers did i feel like that guy was a lousy actor, he did his part well being a convincing platoon leader. and thats the key word right there, LEADER.

now all they need is the LOTR/pathfinder dude as THOR and the Avengers movie would be the tits. im sure they can't fuck up the casting of wasp and hank pym.

lovin the angle. still have no idea who should play him. mcconaughy isnt the worst hollywood could do but they couls also do better. wouldnt even mind marky mark doin it. but ill follow stan lees choice and go with jensen ackles for now. very open to suggestion wouldnt even mind a no name but if the pick a agay guy to play ol cap like they did in superman ill move to canada.

Well since the show started I'd like to see Charlie Hunnam play the part. He plays Jax on Sons of Anarchy. hes younger and has the build and i think he could play the weakling cap starts out as better then most.

But they need to get a director, a writer and an actor attached. I keep hearing the names being thrown around and I can't see any of them really cutting it. I still really think that this is a role that is tailor-made for Matt Damon. He's the kind of actor who is Bale-esque in his regimen for prepping a role. He could conceivably drop to around 130 lbs. for the pre-Rebirth stuff and bulk up

Matt Mc is just not the right type, actor-wise... and there's no way in hell that I'd be able to get around a southern accent for a kid from Brooklyn. Also, Bucky would need to be a part of this. Please, no Shia. Someone like Emile Hirsch would work. As for a director, I'm still not really sure.

And how about this for the ending... Cap and Bucky are trying to disarm the bomb headed for London and it blows up over the Atlantic and Cap sinks into the water... and post-credits, Stark and Fury find his frozen body.

I like that they will be hopefully keeping the film set in WW2 at least for the first film. I think it is a unique angle for this character that other characters can't approach, a superhero story actually based around real world events of the 40's. I met Avi Arad a couple of years ago at a con and we dished about it for a few minutes and I was like "It's like Spider man meets Saving Private Ryan"

He was big on the man out of time angle but I say save that for a sequel. If your audience doesn't feel some grounding to an environment they won't care. Keep it in the 40's.

For a director Proyas is a nice choice, Liman is good with action but bad with plot holes soooo...go with the Baymiester...I know he wouldn't do it after doing transformers but seriously his eye for action would spice up this whole flick into a rockin' shabang of goodness. I love Bad Boys...
If not he then hand it over to Joe Wright the director of Atonement...I liked his period piece stuff in that film who knows he might be good with all the action.
Oh and for a star...I nominate...myself! When I was 8 I had a Cap costume made for halloween. I might be able to squeeze into it still plus I'm willing to lose 20lbs (as part of my contract of course) and I have an affinity for shielding myself from attacks (more in a metaphorical way but it still applies...)

"Hancock" was alright, I guess, but "I, Robot" and "I Am Legend" could have been classics yet where dumbed down and thematically altered for mainstream audiences. Now, I don't blame Smith for the failure of those two films to capture their potential, but I'd be lying if I said I

wow, i think this is could be one of the greatest superhero movies of all time,...if they get the right director and the right person to play captain america. hopefully it won't be like the captain america movie they made in the 1980's. very cheesy.
