Capt. America Scribes

Nov. 19, 2008by: Daniel Barna

This whole Captain America thing is really taking shape. First a director, now the writers. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are in negotiations to write FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA with Joe Johnston set to direct.

Markus and McFeely previously wrote the first Narnia film so needless to say they've earned their blockbuster chops. There have been so many stories on this site regarding this film so I don't really have to go into plot details. We all know the deal. Can you just please cast the Captain Already? My vote is for Steve Buscemi but he might be too buff.
Extra Tidbit: Forget the Captain. Who should play Red Skull?

Johnny Depp = Red Skull

Creepy - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Sinister - Sweeney Todd
Bad Ass - Once Upon a Time in Mexico

I rest my case!

I'm sorry

but fuck Johnny Depp and that idea what next john Cena for cap? Ralph Fiennes for Skull and Eckhart still has my vote for Cap imagine them facing off, both great actors. If you want a younger Cap then idk but someone my age (in their 20's) Ordering around two or three guys in their 40's if he orders Fury around too would just look silly. Eckhart has the chin, the build, the acting, hair and eye color all American and he needs a role like this great actor on the rise for cheap.

Ya know, I'd like to see Tim Curry as the Red Skull.

Cap? Viggo Mortenson? Guy Pearce? Jensen Ackles if they want to go younger.

At one time I might have even put Brendan Frasier's name in the bucket, but I think that time has passed.

cough

I know that Depp is doing too many Burton movies now, but I hope this backlash isn't anything major. I stil like him. Anytime some one becomes too big, then he gets bashed. I understand why, but it happens too much. It's not like I can stop it or anything. lolol

leo roth

i think, after seeing The Departed so many times, that leo would make a good, young version, of captain america. he has the lean look of a soilder, and can be a badass when given the right role.

as for red skull, i think, honestly, tim roth. even though he was in the hulk. he'd be pretty damn perfect, even better fit, for this role.

yeah, people REALLY need to stop with the completely unwarranted Depp hate. i mean, where did it come from. seriously. what is it. is it that he somehow does too many creepy weird roles. is that it. so basically you have seen soooo much of him that you want to cast him off already. please stop acting like idiots. ......

...side-note, i am in no way saying Depp should be in this movie, because he shouldnt be, i was just making a point.

depp is a weenie, to me, it seems he makes his money off of being typical creepy characters, cause thats EXACTLY what his fans like, and he wants the fame.

now, back to the important part, i would totally love to see Jeremy Irons as Red Skull or maybe even Arnold Vosloo, as for Capt. maybe Chris Pine, or Edward Burn. I can totally see Patrick Wilson putting on the Red, White and Blue.

BRANDON ROUTH!

BRANDON ROUTH! What better way to say F**ck you to DC? He can act and can pull off red and blue spandex. What the hell else do you want?

If J.J. can flex those 'Rocketeer' muscles this will be a treat!

I AM hip to this news, I just wanted the red border to this comment.

A good Red Skull: Willem Dafoe.

And lantinfish, I LOVE your idea - Brandon Routh has the looks, the chops, and the charisma for this. And "what better way to say F**ck you to DC" - I'm all for it! Hear-hear!

Call me crazy, but...

I think Matthew Fox will make a Good Captain America. Like i said, a bit crazy, but then again, no one really knows how he would play the role. with regard to Red Skull, i would say Arnold Vosloo. They're great actors, so if they don't look the part, they should still be able to play the part. well, it's just a thought anyway.

I wonder how much of Cap's early missions they'll go into? Are we talking 1940s stuff with Bucky, Nick Fury, and maybe even the other Invaders (Namor, original Human Torch, Toro) or will it be mostly present day with a few flashbacks to explain it all. Lots of potential if they get it right, but I'll be interested to find out exactly what angle they're going for with the character.

I know everyone is more excited about who should play the good Cap'n but I'm still pissed at the decision to have Joe Johnston direct. Just because you can do some bigger budget action films doesn't make you a good director for this movie. Comic book adaptations have finally been taken seriously in the last couple years but now they seem to be slipping again.

Oh and Willem Dafoe as Red Skull would be badass.

WILLEM DAFOE

STOP SUGGESTING WILLEM DAFOE!! he was the green goblin in Spiderman for fucks sake! does no-one remember that? it irritates the shit out of me when people suggest actors who have already played superheroes/villains. As for the Red Skull, i think Ralph Fiennes in a twist on his Schindler's List character.

Since the release of The Dark Knight three directors have signed on to do superhero films (Kenneth Branagh, Sam Mendes, Joe Johnston) each of them is either an Oscar winner or multiple nominee. How the hell does that equate to comic films "slipping"?

Also to the Johnston haters, you guys all realize he directed Red Sky which was one of the best reviewed movies of 1999, right? If you hate him and haven't seen that movie go watch it. If you still hate him aferwards, well then good for

As for Red Skull, I too like the idea of Ralph Fiennes, but he just seems like such an easy choice because of Schindler's List. I'd also go with Jim Caviziel.

My ideal Red Skull would be Jurgen Prochnow but he might be too old for the role now. But idea of having Crispin Glover would also be awesome.

The guy who did Jurassic Park III?

Am I the only one who doesn't like the fact that Joe "Jumanji" Johnston is directing Captain America? The guy's a generic hack and hasn't made anything of note his entire career. Come on.

I'm gonna dodge tomatoes for this but I still say Matt McConaughey for Caps, and as for Skull, if he's in it which he most likely is, I have no idea. How about John Malkovich?? It could work.

Peter Stormare should play Skull. Who else better than the devil himself from Constantine? The dude from Fargo and Lebowski. Think about it. He's just creepy.

Captain America cast

Captain America/Steve Rogers = Josh Lucas, Kiefer Sutherland, Neal McDonough (I have a suspicion it's Kiefer Sutherland. Remember a year ago when Marvel announced they were going to work with him?).

The Red Skull = Ralph Fiennes, Robert Carlyle

PETER STOREMARE is a great idea for the Red Skull.
As for Cap, i think he'll have to be quite young to be of recruiting age for the army, it's a difficult one but perhaps someone like Michael Pitt if he bulks up, he's a good actor and blonde hair blue eyes, just lacking the chin...
