In a wait that is starting to seem like forever, Joe Johnston (THE WOLFMAN, JUMANJI) is giving a loose time frame of when Captain American will be cast.

"We need to cast it soon," said Johnson. "We have a very short list, but we're still juggling actors here. I'd say within the next couple of weeks we'll have ourselves a Captain America, I hope."

Who will it be? It's been rumored that everyone from Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Aaron Eckhart, and John Borrowman to name a few. Then there's the dream list: Matt Damon, Jeremy Renner, Jensen Ackles, Chris Pine, Alexander Skarsgard, Jon Hamm, amongst many other names that have been thrown out (when we asked our readers, Ackles was the #1 choice, followed by Damon and Pine).

The film is still in fairly early pre-production and will not start shooting until June. The director said this on the location, "We're getting ready to go to the U.K., it looks like.

Here's what he had to say on the story, "It's the kind of thing where, while I'm not necessarily a comic-book fan, I think the interesting thing about this guy is that he's a superhero without any superpowers. Basically, he is the epitome of human perfection. He can't fly and throw tanks around and see through walls and things like that, but he's strong and runs fast."

Johnston continued, "And the interesting thing about this guy is that he starts out as a 98-pound weakling and he becomes this Adonis. How does that affect his arc in the story? How does that affect where he goes and what happens to him and everything? I think that's the part of the story that was fascinating for me. And, of course, being a Marvel movie, there's fantastic action scenes in it and all kinds of great stuff. But there's an interesting story there as well."

So who will it be? Also, how do you guys feel about a director that isn't a "comic-book fan"? I'm not terribly bothered by it. I'm just anxious to hear who they cast. Captain America is due in theaters on July 22, 2011.

"We need to cast it soon,"--yeah, you fucking think?

I also wasn't jazzed to read that Johnson's not a comic fan. Doesn't matter probably, but they're being awful indifferent about this movie..

I've always thought Chris Pine would make a great Solid Snake... Jensen (despite having the greatest name ever) wouldn't be that great.

Hmmm...
I'm pulling for Aaron Eckhart, only because if the movies follow the comics then when Red Skull clones himself to look like Steve Rogers, Eckhart would be great as the bad guy too.

If Michael Biehn were only younger. Like the age he was when he played REESE in The Terminator, he'd be perfect.

Pretty amped for this, the casting of Cap will make or break this movie IMO.

Whoever they cast better have immense presence. Which was the problem with Brandon Routh as Superman...he just didn't have the presence.

Will Smith.
He he, also if Joe Johnston stays in "Rocketeer" territory then we will have ourselves a winner here.

Jon Hamm! Jon Hamm!
Apparently I missed the cast this sesh, but Jon Hamm would be my pick. He just needs his own franchise, man. I'd still love to see him play Clark Kent AND Lex Luthor in the best Superman movie ever...

Also love the idea of Chris Pine, Jeremy Renner, Brad Pitt, or Aaron Eckhart.

I don't want to bust bubbles...
...but Marvel is clearly looking for an unknown around the age of 25. Guys like Damon and especially Eckhart are way too old to play Cap in an origin story. In fact, they're too old to even play present day Cap, who's only about 34.

I stand by my personal choice of Adam Baldwin for Captain America. I love Damon and Renner, but they just don't feel right for the character.

Taking forever
Has there been any serious talk of actors that could be more than rumor? Besides Big Willy Style. I'm praying for Renner if not then i would happily settle for Jensen Ackles.

The arc thing...
Similar thing to Jake Sully, is it not? I actually think Worthington would be a pretty good fit for Captain America, but I'd also accept Jeremy Renner. But I'm British, so I don't think I get a say :P
