Carpenter's next?

02.02.2009

For years, genre master John Carpenter has considered returning from SoCal relaxation and cashing checks for inferior remakes of his work, but now it sounds like he's seriously getting back in the director's chair.

Carpenter will make THE WARD his first feature since 2001's Red Planet crash-and-burn GHOSTS OF MARS. The psychological thriller stars the desirable Amber Heard (ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE, PINEAPPLE EXPRESS) as an institutionalized woman stalked through the asylum by a (presumably horny) spirit.

The movie comes from Echo Lake, previously known for award-gathering films like TSOTSI and AWAY FROM HER. Carpenter calls THE WARD script "a complex, visceral story, full of suspense and scares," which is pretty much exactly what we want to see from one of the founders of modern movie horror.

Extra Tidbit: Carpenter has previously circled a Nic Cage prison drama, a gangster movie and a horror project called LA GOTHIC.

FireCaptain4, it's Cigarette Burns and it's amazing. the best of the Masters of Horror in my opinion.

Who cares about Halloween III, Carpenter has nothing to do with it, apart from being a producer.

@ Machinegunrap

I liked "Village of the Damned" (suck it, haters!), which was 1995. But by majority rule, the last truly good film of his was "In the Mouth of Madness," which was made in 1994 (his fifth to last film). However, Carpenter hasn't made a movie in 8 years, so the longevity since his last solid film isn't a very fair measurement, since he hasn't been that busy. Besides, the man had an awesome run in the 70s and 80s (The Thing, Halloween, The Fog, Christine, Prince of Darkness, Escape from New York,

Do the "Masters of Horror" episodes count? I've heard "Cigarette Butts" is rather decent.

Carpenter

What was the last good movie he's made? How long has it been? That Amber Heard picture is definitely nice. [link]

John Carpenter is one of the greatest directors of our time, this is very good news. I hope Kurt Russell can make a cameo.

Let him make another Halloween

I wish he'd make one last Halloween movie to end the original series right. Resurrection is an embarressment, and now were stuck with those trashy remakes. I don't care what it cost, give this man the money and tell him to make a Halloween 9 to finish the series for good.

Sounds interesting.

But are there really so few pictures of Amber Heard? I swear this one's been up five times in relation to some scoop on her.
