Cars 2 on the way?

Jul. 13, 2007by: Omar Aviles

Cars Is Pixar done with sequels after TOY STORY 3? Not according to THIS GUY. He says he's heard from the omnipresent "reliable source" that after Pixar's done with Woody and Buzz' third rollicking adventure, they're heading back to the racetrack for a CARS sequel. Apparently, Paul Newman talked about a sequel a while back but he also talked about retiring so who knows what that crazy bastard's talking about. If there is a CARS 2: ROUTE 66 BOOGALOO, though, where do you go after our selfish, hotshot race car becomes the honest, decent fellow we always knew he would be? A descent back into selfish assholery? Speaking of which, is anyone really clamoring for a sequel to CARS? Of course, it's still just a rumor so take this all with a quarter ounce of sodium chloride crystals.

Extra Tidbit: The infamous Wilhelm scream is used by one of the cars in Lightning McQueen's dream sequence.

Speaking of Sequels.....

I'm in full agreement about sequels though. Cars was a self contained story. leave it at that. HOWEVER....The Incredibles SREAMS, BELLOWS, and BANSHEES Sequel from the top of the highest mountain. Mr Bird, if anything deserves a Sequel, this does, but DO IT RIGHT. Make the script as airtight as the first one, and then blow us all away again.

What's With The Fenderbendering on Cars?

Ok, I've been watching this for the past year both 'serious' critics and the ' watch me upstage the previous post' boys take what I think are unwarranted shots at CARS. WHAT GIVES? I admit, the first time I saw it I was only ok with it, but the second time it played much better, and I caught tons of stuff I missed before. If its not in the Pixar Top 3, its top 5 for sure, and it ALSO made about 240 million in North America, so its not like it was another Heaven's Gate. Folks, even if you

Folks, even if you consider it below par Pixar ( which I don't),its still MILES ahead of most of the so called CG competition. I personally think that folks are just waiting for a chance to see Pixar Fail, and chose cars to dump on. Too Bad it made all that money, huh?? ;)

Bad, bad idea

PIXAR has been the gem amongst studios by sticking to their (general) "no sequels" rule.

Now, specific to CARS, I have to say that this was the first PIXAR movie where I was really disappointed. Up until then, it was one perfect movie after another. And I chalk it all up to the fact that prior to CARS, nothing that they animated didn't already have a mouth. In Toy Story, they didn't give Etch-a-Sketch a mouth, and that made the character more personable than a car with eyes and a mouth.

The CARS characters weren't watchable, and don't deserve a sequel. If PIXAR is going down this road, then they've lost their edge and it'll be painful watching them slip into the gutter.

Cars was shit

I mean, REALLY shit. Pixar really need to make a bit of a comeback in my books what with that and Finding Nemo.

ENOUGH remakes, ENOUGH sequels (after the next Indiana Jones, THE DARK KNIGHT, and a few others, of course!), ENOUGH talking [link]!

WE WANT ORIGINAL MOVIES!!!

its ok for kids

Cars was oriented more for very young kids, mostly boys more so than other Pixar movies which are enjoyable for all ages. Cars is the perfect movie for your toddler son who loves cars, so I could see them doing a sequel because young boys may be in to that more than a rat making dinner. In terms of quality, it's not as good as other Pixar but still good.

I don't mind sequels to Toy Story because that rocks, however, I prefer how Pixar constantly makes original films each year, rather than

Boo. Cars was by Pixar's worst movie. So superficial and cliche.

Ugh. Cars was okay...but not good enough for a sequel. They should make a sequel to The Incredibles. Glad to see that people are catching on to the Wilhelm Scream!

While I loved Cars....

and enjoyed watching it, a sequel is a bad idea. What would be the point? Lightning McQueen turned into a decent car at the end, so where do you go from there? The answer's nowhere. It'd be like trying to do a sequel to Finding Nemo, A Bug's Life, or Monster's Inc. There's no place for the story to go but downhill.

They should do a sequel to the Incredibles, provided they come up with a great story to match the original. This is the only Pixar movie besides Toy Story that has any room

brad bird

Brad Bird has said repeatedly that Pixar's about moving forward, not retreading the past. I doubt there is even a shred of truth to this.

This has to be false, why would they take two steps back after releasing a classic like Ratatouille(?). CARS at best was above par for a Don Bluth/ Amblin animation films from the late 80's & early 90's.

Weak

I'm pretty sure it is common sentiment that Cars a mediocre movie, so I have idea why Pixar would feel the need to push a CARS sequel. IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO A SEQUEL: sit Brad Bird down and don't let him get up until he has written a sequel to the INCREDIBLES.

yuck

i know brad bird didn't direct cars, so this is somewhat irrelevant, but i think they should make a sequel to either the incredibles or ratatoullie, which is their best film in years. either that or brad bird should make a sequel to the iron giant.

I would personally lose some respect for Pixar if they did this, I would rather a sequel to ratatouille, which doesnt need one at all, but sequels should be made when there is somewhere new for the characters to go or just likeable enough characters that no one cares what they are doing. Cars has neither. The only place I'd like to see Lightning McQueer go is to the junkyard in a nicely shaped cube. But seriously stop dicking around and get to the Incredibles 2: Rise of the Incrediblers

i second

CARS was Pixar's weakest and most shallow movie. A sequel is a terrible idea.

If they were to go the sequel route (CARS pun!), THE INCREDIBLES has the most potential. Superhero stories are like custom-built for continuation. Still, I'd only want them to make another one if there's a really good story to back it up (semi-CARS pun!). I don't want them ruining one of my favorite movies just to make a buck. Thankfully, Pixar has never seemed geared (another CARS pun!) towards that standard

worst pixar film, a sequel isnt necessary. i like the idea pixar continues to make new movies and not that many sequels but if they do i would say it would be for the incredibles..

Cars is the weakest Pixar film and really... lets be frank.. it sucked in comparison to their 7 other masterpieces.

A sequel to any of their other films would be welcomed by me.. just not Cars... COME ON, WE NEED AN INCREDIBLES SEQUEL.

"Cars" sequel = unnecessary. "Incredibles" sequel = mandatory. With Pixar's next 3 projects being Brad Bird-free and with "The Incredibles" being the best of Pixar's movies for sequelizing, it just makes sense.
