CAST THIS: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

11.24.2010

This week it was announced that Warner Bros. was moving ahead with a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot "because the fans demanded it." But when said fans found out that both Joss Whedon and Sarah Michelle Gellar were nowhere near the project, they were less than enthused, with Whedon himself even heaping scorn on the decision.

But like it or not, this project is happening, and it needs a leading lady to fill Buffy's tank top. So put your feelings aside for a few minutes and help me come up with ideas if this thing really does have to get made.

We know that Buffy will be beyond high school at this point, but will still be "sexy, smart and dangerous" or however the producer summed her up. How old exactly? I'd guess mid twenties as vampire hunting is not for the middle aged. Unless you're Blade.

Yes, we're looking for a blonde with action kicking abilities, but dramatic chops would help as well. Even with Whedon not writing the dialogue, she still should be believable in scenes where no one's getting staked.

I'm going to go ahead and say here to please NOT say Sarah Michelle Gellar. I get that she's the ideal choice, but with Whedon not attached, there's no way in hell she'd sign off on this, and I don't consider her a realistic possibility as opposed to say, Brandon Routh returning to his Superman role.

Last Week: SNOW WHITE

Last week we were trying to find a leading lady for the myriad of Snow White projects currently circling Hollywood. Who were your guys' picks?

1. Zooey Deschanel (30%) 2. Alison Brie (12%) 3. Anne Hathaway (10%)

Damn, that's week two where Zooey is in the top three, and this time a clear number one. Next thing you know you'll be saying she should get a dye job and play Buffy as well. But in reality she would make a pretty damn good Snow White, as would Hathaway, who seems like a more logical choice. Brie is cute in Mad Men and Community, but I'm not sure she's up to the dramatic task.

Alright, how about new Buffy?

Extra Tidbit: Gellar is still married to '90s staple Freddie Prinze Jr.
