Casting rumors on the Fantastic Four reboot already

08.24.2010

After two tries with the same humans in the unstable molecule suits, Fox is rebooting the FANTASTIC FOUR film franchise with a whole new crew.

While it's still early in the remake's process, Screen Rant claims the studio is tossing around some names for the roles once occupied by Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis and (now Captain America) Chris Evans.

Fox (who apparently still goes by 20th Century Fox, which says volumes about their mentality) is supposedly eyeballing Adrien Brody and Jonathan Rhys Meyers to play stretchy brainiac Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, with Alice Eve (SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE) and Amber Heard wanted for transparent hottie Sue Storm/Invisible Girl.

Screen Rant also says The Thing will be completely crafted from CG, and the movie will NOT be titled FANTASTIC FOUR REBORN.

If you're curious why Fox is relaunching a superhero team that was just on screens in 2007, it's because several studios who currently hold movie rights to various Marvel characters have to continually develop movies with them or risk giving them up to Marvel (the outrageously awful Roger Corman FF movie was essentially made for the same reason). This is why you'll also soon see sequels/prequels/reboots of GHOST RIDER, DAREDEVIL, SPIDER-MAN and various X-MEN mutants. Excelsior!

Extra Tidbit: If you're wondering why Fox (and others) don't just relinquish or sell back character rights to Marvel so they can do them properly, it's because Hollywood is more interested in ownership than anything. It's why so many scripts and properties get optioned -- not to get made, but to keep others from having them. Sad but true.

Join my campaign against seeing crappy Fox and Sony movies based on Marvel characters. If they don't make any money, the rights will eventually have to go back to Marvel. THEN we can get some decent effing movies.

I'm fucking sick of this, all the marvel movies not owned by marvel getting churned out just so marvel don't get the rights back. It's just to make money and they really are putting any dumb hack in charge, actually making a good movie clearly the bottom of their to-do list.
FUCK THEM ALL. I'm officially boycotting any marvel movie not made by marvel.

I'm torn on whether I want it to be an origins story or not. They kind of ruined it by giving Dr. Doom powers. I would also like to see the submariner storyline on screen. There's no way submariner can carry his own movie so put him in this one. And as for casting I say John Leguizamo for human torch.

At this rate, someone might finally start thinking about doing an 'Inhumans' movie by, say, 2035.

Rebooted in 2041, of course.

I was thinking Clooney would make a good Mr. Fantastic too. But it would have to be a really good script and a REALLY big check to get him attached.

Yeah good casting choice if it was Fantastic Four: Rise of thr Old People! Although I thing Theron is still hot, they are are both too old to play these rolls...

In response to Ish

It doesn't all depend on who writes it at all. They could have it written by the best scribe on the planet, but it's still a Fox production, so they'll easily fuck it up somehow!

The first two films were bland popcorn fodder and the way they handled Galactus was a mess.
In this case a reboot couldn't hurt, and CG-ing The Thing would work if Fox were planning to invest a lot of time and money in getting it right, but what are the chances of that happening?
I don't necessarily see the rights reverting to Marvel/Disney as a fix-all solution, regardless of their success with Iron Man, but undoubtedly they'd have a better shot there than at Fox.
I do think Fantastic Four

I do think Fantastic Four is a difficult movie to get right - their appeal as a group is a tough one to nail down cinematically.
Chances of it ending up a comedic 3D misfire? Pretty high I reckon.

2) The original cast was fine

I agree, I think the original cast was a good choice, but the writing stunk, so you really can't blame the actors, but since Evens is CA, they can't use him again..

the original cast was good as far as the FF team went, Dr. Doom could have been cast better, but the storyline was crap and the direction was crap, so no matter how many times they reboot this, if they keep the same formula as the previous films then they better kiss their investments goodbye.

I never seen the others, and I won't be seeing this one. Me and Fox comic book movies are through. They'll never see another penny from me.

That said, Amber Heard as the Invisible woman in a shower scene action sequence, I would reconsider.

And I think Brody would be an awful Mr. Fantastic. I like Brody all right. I just couldn't buy him in that role. John Hamm would be a good Mr. Fantastic.

very true tidbit

extra tibit - it's professional narcascism. no studio wants to see someone else go out and do their job better than they think they are doing themselves.

This series needs a reboot. So glad to see those awful movies reworked, but Adrien Brody? Still trying to turn him in to an action hero Hollywood? Wow.

Unnecessary reboot

Unf..king real. I agree with The_Soloist. I enjoyed the FF movies, sure they weren't great but definitely not warranting a reboot. F**king Hollywood.

Amber Heard

As much as I love her and I do indeed, would NOT make a good Susan Storm. Too young and not believable. But Alice Eve....ehh perhaps

I think Ryan Gosling would make a great Human Torch. My casting choices would be Mr Fantastic - Adrien Brody or David Duchovny Sue Storm - Elizabeth Banks - Johnny Storm - Ryan Gosling, Timothy Olyphant, or Joseph Gordon Levitt - The Thing - Michael Chiklis

Well, a reboot is needed. The fact that fox is in control doesn't give much hope, but I might as well throw out my casting choices.

Mr. Fantastic - Billy Crudup
Sue Storm - Sarah Michelle Gellar
Johnny Storm - Ryan Gosling
Thing - Vin Diesel

I liked the Fantastic Four movies alot. Sure, they weren't perfect, but they were entertaining movies. I thought that everyone in the movie was solid, except for Alba and thought that Evans made a really good Torch and Chiklis made a very good Thing. The banter between them was good. I would have liked to see another FF4 movie with the original cast, but I am excited for a re-boot. Yes, like most of you other FF4 fans I would love to see Marvel tackle this along with Spider Man and Daredevil,

The only actress I can really see playing Alba's role is Elizabeth Banks. She'd be perfect. For the Torch, Evans was perfect, so I have no idea who they would replace him with. Would love to see Chiklis come back to be the Thing again. I might be in the minority here, but I can't wait for this re-boot and am looking forward to hearing more casting and news about this re-boot.

Fox needs to just give up their Marvel rights because they clearly don't give a shit about trying to make decent adaptions anymore.

This is probabl the biggest reason wh Hollywood sucks when it comes to comics or any existing property. They would rather waste money making a shitty movie than spend time to make a right one or give it to people who actually give a shit about the property.I still maintain that in the next 20 years we will get a good F4 and X-Men movie, maybe after Tom Rothman dies or gets fired but it will happen.
