UPDATED: make-up and Emo Parker! Catch a glimpse of Shailene Woodley in her Mary-Jane Watson hair for The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Pics, Tweets, and snippets of news and teases have been rolling in from the production of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 and today is no different.  Actress Shailene Woodley (THE DESCENDANTS) has been spotted on the New York set, rocking some long, red locks that look fitting enough for her character, Mary-Jane Watson, the longest-running love interest for Peter Parker/Spider-Man.  Mary-Jane's appearance in the film could mean any number of things as the continuity of the newly rebooted series, directed by Marc Webb, has taken quite a few "Walking Dead" liberties in adapting the source material. 

Woodley is an attractive young lady, no doubt, although many have savaged these pics already as her not being "hot enough."  Based on the pics, it seems like she was caught walking to the set or just around town, and probably yet to visit the hair and make-up truck, so it's a little early to start going Rex Reed on the girl.  I think she's an interesting choice and will reserve my judgment until she's been properly presented to us. 

Take a gander:

I'm much more optimistic for this sequel.  I didn't much care for the first one, but now that it's out of the way and with things so out of the ordinary in terms of story, I'm interested to see where they're going to go with this.  The new Spidey suit is definitely a step in the right direction, in my opinion, so it's a start.

What do you guys think of Woodley as MJ?

UPDATE:  Well, I think it's pretty clear that the lovely Shailene hadn't made it to make-up yet when the above shots were taken as these are much more becoming of the actress, who shot some scenes with Andrew Garfield today.  Take a look and see if your mind is swayed.  Personally, I think there's been some really harsh commentary with the above pics, but hey, that's the way the Internet goes. 

I'm more concerned with Emo Peter Parker's pants than I am with Shailene's make-up...

She is obviously much younger in that photo, I'd guess around 16 or so. Plus, glamor photos like that are never accurate to a person's look. Precise lighting, heavy makeup, and photoshop can make nearly anyone look great.

I liked Amazing Spider-Man. It was a little slow, but all of the performances were good, especially Emma Stone. ShaIlene was great in The Decendants and she'll likely make a good MJ. And I dig the motorcycle.

Seriously, this is hardly even a phrase in use anymore. Regardless, they're pants. That's it.
Moreover, Garfield looks good in them. Get over it.
Woodley seems totally miscast as MJ. While she wasn't ideal, I think Dunst conveyed far more charm in the part.

I gotta agree. Mary Jane is supposed to be an exceptional beauty, and Woodley comes off as a little too plain and ordinary, even in her glamour shot. Kristen Dunst was even pushing it when she was cast in the role, but they've really yet to cast someone in the part that makes you think that they got it right. Woodley certainly isn't it. However, with MJ cast, I wonder if this means we'll see them take a chance and kill off Gwen? I'm hoping they do.

The only reason this has any relevance is because it's the first time we've seen the new hair color on her for the role of Marry Jane so that's the only thing you should be looking at, and to me the hair color looks great.

I had similar doubts about the 1st one & yet found it decent, so maybe this one will suprise me also. Just seems they are gonna cake on way too much makeup & she ends up looking fake.

I Didn't See The Amazing Spiderman Till Blu-Ray and...

... It was ok. I was not blown away by it but it wasn't as bad as Spiderman 3. I didn't agree/think that Kristen Dunst was a good choice for MJ and I am unsure about the new MJ as well but I am not the person directing the film, so I have to reserve judgement to when (or if) I see this film. I'm baffled why they couldn't cast an unknown or little known actress to play Mary Jane who can actually pull off that she's supposed to be outrageously sexy. I'm sure someone like Alexandra Daddario works cheap, and she looks like she sprung right out of a comic.

How is Shailene Woodley well known? Sure she was in an Oscar nominated film, but she doesn't have many starring roles to her name. I don't understand how Alexandra Daddario would be considered a more obscure choice. She actually has a big budget starring role in her filmography, and was the lead in the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. Shailene may not look the part, but she qualifies as a little known actress.

I think she'll do just fine, as they said she is already better than Kristen Dunst and is still pretty attractive. I'm happy to see that the spider suit is legit from yesterday's pic and was indeed not photoshopped.

So what happened?

Woodley's a very pretty girl, it seems they did all they could make her look as plain as possible. Hoping these pics are from rehearsals or something, otherwise it'll be a real easy decision for Peter Parker to make.

She doesn't have the Mary Jane look I was hoping for. That's not a knock on her looks, she is incredibly attractive but I would never look at her and say "That's Mary Jane Watson." Granted, I didn't think Dunst was a good choice either.
