Character details on the team members of TNT's DC Comics series The Titans

02.02.2015

With comic book series continuing to find success on television, TNT's live action adaptation of DC's Teen Titans continues to move forward and now we have learned which characters will populate the super hero squad. Titled THE TITANS, TNT's series will feature characters familiar to fans of the comic series but with some changes.

Nerdist learned of the characters via recent casting calls for the show. The auditions will be for Nightwing, Batgirl, Hawk, Dove, Raven, and Starfire. Interestingly, Nightwing will still be Robin on the series and working as a detective in Boston after parting ways with Batman. Barbara Gordon will now be Oracle, confined to a wheelchair, and references to her past as Batgirl will be made.

The cast of characters feel similar to prior incarnations of the team minus Beast Boy and Cyborg, two characters on the current TEEN TITANS GO series on Cartoon Network. Cyborg will play a major role in the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE movie which may explain his absence here. But, the showrunners could also be leaving room for changes to the team in later episodes and seasons.

THE TITANS would be the first team superhero series on television which could be an interesting dynamic compared to ARROW, THE FLASH, GOTHAM, AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. or AGENT CARTER. TNT has showcased some high production values on their original series in recent years, so there could be hope for this show yet.

THE TITANS currently has no premiere date.

Extra Tidbit: TEEN TITANS GO is pretty damn funny.

With regard to the tidbit, my 6 year old loves the show. I was totally against it when I heard about what they planned to do with the series...on the count of liking my stuff dark and serious....but lets face it, certainly is "pretty damn funny". As for the live action comic book series with a team, Arrow is pretty much becoming a team affair now. Didn't I read something about Diggle finally getting a suit too?

Let be honest Cyborg isn't there because of the cost of making him look like Cyborg. I mean look at Agents of Shield. They had Deathlok (who aesthetically looks l a lot like Cyborg) yet he looked nothing like Deathlok except for the 5 seconds they showed an x-ray of him underneath. A series on ABC has way more money to spend compared to TNT and even they didn't go full out on the character. I doubt TNT could do it justice and knew they'd have to half ass it like AOS did and just decided not to

Like Soloist said though, it can't be worse than Gotham lol.

They should totally just bring back Young Justice! I like the young justice line up way better than this one anyways: Kid flash, Superboy, Speedy, Aqualad. I don't need this Hawk and Dove crap.

Or maybe they're trying to save money?

I doubt this can work anyway, but can you imagine how expensive it would be to include a guy who's half robot (without it looking cheesy) and one who's only power is turning into CG animals?

The Flash has made me believe they can do super-powered characters right, but the Teen Titans is just too much to bite off. I'd rather they bring back the animated show (or at least Young Justice).

Well he actually was right, the shots of the city are actually the best and deepest character on the show. I'm stick with Gotham hoping and praying for a moment, and because since there is no more football on monday's there isn't much else on lol.

Being a HUGE Nightwing fan. I'm okay with this.

Leaving Beast Boy and Cyborg out makes sense for budgetary reasons. It also makes sense for Dick to start off as Robin in the series first. (Kind of like how Young Justice did it)

The only thing that doesn't make sense, is using Boston as a setting instead of Blüdhaven.
