Charlie Cox on how he screwed up his Han Solo audition because of Daredevil

There's a good chance that most people will see Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil for the rest of his days, but the man is a working actor and when he's not performing in Incognito off-Broadway, he actually did audition for another highly coveted role. I'm, of course, referring to that of Han Solo for Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. We already know that Alden Ehrenreich took that honor (possibly thanks to Spielberg), but thanks to a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cox thinks that maybe the role of Daredevil ruined his shot at the smuggler! Take a look!

Charlie Cox on auditioning for Han Solo:

I had gone to an audition — one of those things that are super secretive and they don’t tell you, but I’m pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot — and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren’t you looking at me?’ I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind. I never got invited back, probably because they couldn’t figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot.

I can imagine that a long-time gig like Daredevil carries with it some quirks that are hard to shake, including not looking people in the eye! I'm not sure if that was the ultimate decision in not getting a callback, but I would love to see Cox in more material outside of Daredevil. He proved to be a very charming lead in STARDUST, so here's hoping those pesky Daredevil mannerisms don't get in the way in the future!

Daredevil will return in The Defenders which is scheduled to hit Netflix in 2017.

Too bad. We could've used a Han Solo hallway fight scene!

I am surprised he has time to do another big budget film where he is the main character. I wonder if that would have worked out with his Marvel contract.

"one of those things that are super secretive and they donít tell you, but Iím pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot"

So he doesn't know if it was, even now? He could have been auditioning for anything...may be a DC movie...so he's probably dodged a bullet. I kid :o)

Anyhoo, I much rather he audition for Matt Murdock, ace lawyer...because as Matt Murdock the lawyer, he seriously sucked at it in season 2, one of my few nitpicks from last season.

I think he would have been too old to play a young Han Solo

I dont know much about the guy they actually cast, but he's a little too old also so I guess there's that. Anyways, what's next for the Marvel Neflix Universe? Defenders or Daredevil Season 3?

How do you know he is too old? Alden Ehrenreich is 26 (turning 27), which is still 8 years younger than Harrison Ford was when he first played Han Solo. You don't know what age they are aiming to show, so what makes him too old?

However, Charlie Cox is the age Harrison Ford was, and by the time the movie is released, he would be older, so you are right that Cox shouldn't play a young Han Solo.

That's a great story, I love Daredevil. I am optimistic about the actor they did cast though.
