Charlie Day & Ice Cube stare each other down in first Fist Fight images

Fight! Fight! Fight! Oh my god, there’s so much blood! Why did we cheer this on!?

That’s how fights usually turn out, even though we as human beings all have an unspoken bloodlust. The movies quench that lust pretty well, which is why I’m super excited for the new comedy, FIST FIGHT, starring Charlie Day and Ice Cube as two teachers who get into a, well, you can fill in the gap.

Thanks to USA Today we now have our first three images from the movie (one above), which features members of the cast, including Day, Cube, Jillian Bell, and Tracy Morgan in his first movie role since his 2014 car crash.

Take a look at the other two!

The plot centers on one teacher, Andy (Day), who gets the other, Ron (Cube), fired which results in a standoff between the two on the last day of class. The two have different teaching styles, which contributes to the animosity, but according to director Richie Keen the fight stands for something bigger:

“The truth of the matter is at this public high school on a very chaotic day, neither of their philosophies are working. And this fight becomes a bigger metaphor for the system and things needing to change.”

Day, who usually plays the manic character on shows like IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA and in movies like HORRIBLE BOSSES, says that this role goes in the other direction:

“I get to be a little bit more of a straight man in a sea of crazy people.”

As for the fight scene with Cube, which the two did themselves:

“What’s surprising is how hard he can actually punch. If you’re making Rocky or Creed and there’s a big fight scene at the end, you also have a big training sequence.  Let me tell you, when you’re trying to do that type of fighting and you’re not in the best shape of your life, it’s extra-hard.”

Frankly I think the two of these guys will make for an interesting and hilarious match-up, as even an awesome, hypothetical “Who Would Win in a Fight?” scenario would be “the crazy dude from IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY or one of the guys from N.W.A?” The film itself has potential to be a standout of the spring season, especially considering the great cast, which also features Christina Hendricks and Dean Norris. Even if the movie itself isn't great, at least we know there will be a badass fight scene in the end. Fight! Fight Fight!

Charlie Day and Ice Cube go toe-to-toe in FIST FIGHT on February 17, 2017.
