Charlie Sheen to play the president in Machete Kills

Jun. 21, 2012by: Niki Stephens

This is kind of hilarious. I buy Martin Sheen as the President of the United States (cause I've seen it), but Charlie Sheen? I guess if you have enough tiger blood in you then you can do anything.

Is this a surprise? No, not really. We are already accustomed to the kind of actors that Robert Rodriguez cast in his films (same goes for Tarantino).

The news came via Rodriguez's Twitter page then followed by a retweet from Sheen.

Rodriguez: "I just cast Charlie Sheen in #machetekills as the President of the United States! Who better? More soon...

Sheen: "My Fellow Americans! RT @Rodriguez just cast @CharlieSheen #machetekills as President of the United States! More soon!"

As Rodriguez said, we will get more soon. What we do know is that Machete comes back and is drafted by the U.S. government to track an arms dealer through Mexico before he launches a weapon Stateside. I've always liked Charlie Sheen, well actually, I've always liked the entire Sheen family including Emilio. He's always been my favorite.

Can't wait to see Sheen's presidential side.

Personally, I rather see President Machete. That should be the next film.

Please...

Stop comparing Tarantino and Rodriguez. Please. I Know they're pals and all, but cinematically it's like comparing Spielberg to Joe Dante. Rodriguez pumps out willfully stupid, low rent movies that would go straight to your local Wal-Mart bargain bin if not for his association with Tarantino.

A large portion of my interest in this movie just went away.
Just like I wish Charlie Sheen would.

It's like George Bush Sr and George Bush Jr, or Jerry Freaking Springer as the president in Dolph Lundgren's "The Defender". So crazy it probably will be a roaring success.

I think this is awesome! Charlie Sheen is a good actor not just some shock rocker. Plus what better way for Rodriguez to promote his films than "shock casting". But this whole shock casting angle I don't get. Mel Gibson, Danny Trejo, Charlie Sheen, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba? What's not to love about this whole thing?!

How is it that Robert Rodriguez basically has the power to cast anyone he wants in his movies?

I would argue that, particularly lately, Rodriguez goes for a lot more shock stunt casting, Lindsay Lohan, Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen. Yeah Tarantino casts guys like Don Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio, but he wouldn't stick someone in his movie JUST because of the why-the-fuck-not angle. I'm not against this really, but it is, I think, the biggest difference.
