Check out an action-packed extended trailer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 5

08.28.2012

The fifth season of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS is set to kick off next month on Cartoon Network and judging by this new, extended trailer, the series is pushing to be epic in scope with a lot of story threads tying together from previous seasons.  You don't have to see all the previous seasons to enjoy this one, but it may help.  However, there are plenty of familiar faces that may well revive you from a possible hate coma for all things "prequel" in the Star Wars universe.

The ending of season 4 saw the return of Darth Maul, which was handled exceptionally well, giving the tattooed Sith a post PHANTOM MENACE origin that was fitting to his fate from that film.  Some would rather forget the prequels and their offspring even exist, but this show has won me over.  The animation is solid, the voice talents strong, and the storylines much more in-depth, creative, and cool than most of what Lucas put on screen.

Grab your lightsaber:

If you've never seen the show, I recommend giving it a go.  If it's not for you, then no loss, but it very well may win you over, as it did me.  I would certainly watch this over the newly previewed DETOURS show, which looks like Family Guy-lite mixed with Star Wars.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars season five goes into hyperspeed on Saturday, September 29, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: What would get you excited about Star Wars again? For me, I'd love to see post ROTJ stories told in either in film, TV, or animation. That would likely get my cookies.

What I want more than anything is a stand-alone movie set within this universe. A small story on a grand scale set around entirely new characters. Bring back the wit, the romance, the character interactions that made the original trilogy so timeless.

Personal preferences to direct: Brad Bird, Guillermo Del Toro.

It's always a clear sign they're running out of ideas when they bring characters back from the dead. I know Darth Maul is a fan favorite, but create someone new who's equally cool. Even as a kid I thought it was lame when the books would bring back Boba Fett even though I thought he was great. It just feels like your cheating the movies.
As for the extra tidbit, I'd like a series that took place between episodes 3 and 4. A few jedi who escaped Order 66 help an underground military movement

This Cartoon is the best thing to happen to Star Wars in a very long time. Although its a bit too dark for young kids, It's absurd to think that adult fans don't eat it up....I know I do...

What would I like to see?

The prequels were clearly for little kids, the original trilogy seems geared toward the 12 to 15 age. So I too would like to see a post ROTJ trilogy, one that is geared more towards adults, along the lines of a 2001 or Blade Runner. In this way, folks can grow up with the saga.

I'd also like to see the Boba Fett movie.

One review I read somewhere said it best. The show has the political depth and visuals of the prequel series but mixed with the style and tone of the original trilogy. A perfect melding of the two IMO. I enjoy the prequels still and I love Revenge of the Sith but I do agree that the movies could have been so much better and for me, this show is more of what I was hoping for.

This isn't Star Wars. Star Wars came out in1977 and was awesome.

Looks good

I've never seen this show but I've always wanted to. Anybody know if it's ever going to go Streaming on Netflix or Hulu? Last time I checked Hulu they just had a couple of Random Episodes.

Extra Tidbit

I agree. I'd like to see an HBO quality TV series that follows the events after the original trilogy. And something that still contained the ESSENCE of the original trilogy.

The series is a visual feast, everything I liked about the prequel trilogy (well, the visuals and the world) but unllike those, it features some humor.
I think this is the best Star Wars TV series we can ever get.
