Awesome abandoned art from Clive Barker’s The Mummy!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

I don't know if you guys were aware or not but Clive Barker almost made a version of THE MUMMY along with director Mick Garris back in the day. The two pitched the flick to Universal but nothing came of their hopes and twisted dreams.

However, in order to pitch the film, Barker hired Steve Johnson to create some visuals. And the other day, Johnson shared some of those pics with our buddies over at DC.

Steve Johnson:

If you do your research on real mummies in Egypt they look nothing like Boris Karloff mummies or mummies in the new Mummy movies. The goal was to include all of the realistic detail and adornment in a way that was accurate to real Egyptian mummies which had never been done before. We were going to make them fascinating, cenobite-like creatures but based entirely in reality and history.

You can check out the pics below and then make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think in the comments below or on social media!

Barker and Garris plot by the way revolved around "a transsexual occultist protagonist who attempted to reanimate mummies within a prestigious museum setting." Nice.
