Check out Jude Law looking like you have never seen him in these Dom Hemingway posters

Aug. 19, 2013by: Alex Maidy

Jude Law is one of those actors that I really want to like. Yes, he has been excellent in the SHERLOCK HOLMES films as well as the recent Steven Soderbergh movies CONTAGION and SIDE EFFECTS, but I just feel like he is playing variations on the same character over and over. What Jude Law needs to do is play someone unlike any character he has played to date. That may very well be the title role in DOM HEMINGWAY.

Directed by Richard Shepard (THE HUNTING PARTY, I KNEW IT WAS YOU), DOM HEMINGWAY sounds like one heck of a good time. Check out the synopsis below:

Jude Law plays DOM HEMINGWAY, a larger-than-life safecracker with a loose fuse who is funny, profane, and dangerous. After twelve years in prison, he sets off with his partner in crime Dickie (Richard E. Grant) looking to collect what hes owed for keeping his mouth shut and protecting his boss Mr. Fontaine (Demian Birchir). After a near death experience, Dom tries to re-connect with his estranged daughter (Emilia Clarke), but is soon drawn back into the only world he knows, looking to settle the ultimate debt.

That plot is enough to get me instantly intrigued. Jude Law as an ex-con with a Cockney accent sounds awesome. Richard E. Grant, Demian Bichir, and Emilia Clarke just rounds out a great cast. What else could set this movie on my must see list? How about baboons and Prince William's baby with a gangster's head? Yeah, the posters for DOM HEMINGWAY are friggin fantastic.

We won't get a look at DOM HEMINGWAY until it is released by Fox Searchlight on April 4, 2014, but some lucky folks will get to see it at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. Hopefully the film lives up to these posters.

the same character?

Watch Anna Karenina and witness one of the finest, most understated performances of last year.

That top photo, all the lines in his face remind me of Michael Caine, though not the classic Michael Caine Law has tried to pay homage to in the past. Also a bit of Terence Stamp, sure.

But never mind that. Those posters are NUTS! And this thing's got Withnail in it as his partner? And from the guy who made The Matador? Definitely got my attention now.

Sounds terrific. Law is one of the best character actor working today and his Watson makes the perfect complement to Downey Jr's Sherlock.

Would love to see Law play a Batman villain in the new films. He would make for a great Riddler or Joker.

"Jude Law is Dom Hemingway, and YOU'RE NOT."
That's hilarious, great fucking poster.

And amen to jaymanthegreat; Law's performance in Road to Perdition is superb and unlike anything he's ever done.

Finally!!

This has been sitting in the shelf for like almost a year. Having read the script months back I think this movie is going to be a hell if a good time.

Fuck you Don Hemingway!!

Just playing variations of the same character? Watch Alphie and Road to Perdition back-to-back and tell me that man is not one hell of a trans-formative actor. Then watch Sleuth. Criminally underrated movie.

Agreed. and i would toss in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil for a funny, Southern, gay, Greaser type departure from the norm. The man has range!
