Check out the first reactions from the premiere of Alien: Covenant

Anticipation has been quite high for Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT, especially after PROMETHEUS didn't exactly blow ALIEN fans away to the degree that they were hoping. You can count me as a fan of PROMETHEUS, but I can certainly admit that there was ample room for improvement. We may still be two weeks out from the release of ALIEN: COVENANT in North America, but the film recently had its world-premiere in London and plenty of reactions have been hitting the web, including several from our own Editor-in-Chief Paul Shirey.

For the most part the general consensus seems to be that ALIEN: COVENANT does offer an improvement over PROMETHEUS, but that it isn't entirely devoid of its own problems. I suspect that we'll be hearing much more about the film once the official embargo lifts this weekend, but I'm still absolutely pumped to see what Ridley Scott has in store for us!

The official synopsis for ALIEN: COVENANT:

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS -- and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

ALIEN: COVENANT is set for a May 19th release.

Well... Paul Shirey

...is the guy that hated The Preacher TV series so I'm not sure I can trust his reviews on this one.

That series is painfully awful. I loved the graphic novel, and that series missed the mark by miles.

I know not to trust these twitter reactions, but damn it I want this movie to be good. It doesn't have to be great, but it has to at least wash away the bad taste of Prometheus.

I love the trailers. They are as scary and creepy as I like my Alien movies. Judging by the effectiveness of the trailers alone I would say that this movie will earn a lot more than Prometheus.

This movie is going to get lost in the mix. Its lucky its only competition is diary of a wimpy kid, and holdovers from Guardians, and Snatched if it ends up being a hit. My guess is it might muster up 40 million, but itll get completely totaled by pirates the next weekend, looks for a high 80 to low 90 ill domestic, international is up in the air, I don't think Prometheus left people salivating for more, although the horror marketing may get it to 250 mill, all in all it will underperform

Hopefully this does end up being good, but I'm still bummed at the fact that Ridley Scott killed the chance for Blomkamp's Alien film.

Blomkamp proved he isn't a director. He has ideas, but can't materialize them. There is a place for him in Hollywood, but not in the director's chair.
