Filming is underway for Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT in Sydney, Australia, and several photos from the production have surfaced online over at The Daily Mail.

The movie is currently shooting at an undisclosed quarry, and although there's no sign of stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston or Billy Crudup in the images below, they do show a number of humanoid bodies that appear to have been turned to stone, or preserved by ash. One of those giant heads from PROMETHEUS was also spotted on the set of the upcoming film, as well as as some massive, tree-like stumps.

Take a look:

Last week while speaking with Inquirer, Fassbender called the sets the most impressive ones he's seen since PROMETHEUS, before going on to say that "It’s a fantastic mixture of high-end technology and primitive elements."

More from Fassbender:

The way that I can explain it is the same way that Ridley did Blade Runner. You have this futuristic world where people are eating noodles, because that seems to be the cheaper food and something that will fill you up. But it’s also something that harks back to the past. The weaving of those two things—past and future—together makes for an interesting world that we can aspire to, but also recognize something in it.

ALIEN: COVENANT will arrive in theaters on August 4, 2017.

Looks like scenes from the Greece-Macedonia border. Fuck 'em all; men, women and children alike. We don't want your kind of alien anywhere in Europe.

I'm not going to be so easily won over considering how Prometheus turned out. However, the lack of that asshat, Damon Lindelof, is a plus.

Well, they did get a writer from Green Lantern (Michael Green) and Transcendence (Jack Paglen). And it was re-written by John Logan, who wrote Gladiator for Ridley Scott. Then again, his last science fiction movie was Star Trek: Nemesis . . .

Why does Ridley Scott not take any of the blame for Prometheus? He was actively involved in that story.

Oh believe me, I blame him, but Lindelof's trademarks were all over the movie and that can't be denied. It may have been slightly more bearable without him, but all in all I do still think Ridley might have gone about the story in the wrong way.

Looks pretty cool. For a technologically advanced race, it still has that ancient Egyptian vibe.

Let's hope it's more coherent than the last one.

Some of these images already look pretty creepy and unsettling. I think they'll really play well on film.
