Check out the high res banner for The Amazing Spider-Man 2! Goblin, Electro, Rhino, Oh My!

Dec. 3, 2013by:

Well, we've spent a great deal of time studying the low resolution banner for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 this past week, which features Spidey facing off against the villains Rhino (Paul Giamatti), Electro (Jamie Foxx), and presumably the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan???). It's the first time we've seen the film play up more than just Electro as the main villain in official marketing and based on this and the upcoming trailer (which is said to tease both Doctor Octopus and The Vulture to some degree as well), the reality of the ol' webhead tussling with the famed Sinister Six is coming closer to reality.

Check it out:

Here's the new synopsis:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

I'm more and more intrigued by this with each new piece of marketing, which is the opposite of how I felt with the first film. I'm happy to see them going for it. Although some liken this to "Spider-Man 3, Part 2" with the onslaugh of villains, I feel that this is a much more focused effort, rather than just tossing baddies in for the hell of it. This is a bridge to the Sinister Six, not just a hodgepodge of bad guys just to drive up toy sales. Although that certainly doesn't hurt the bottom line. As someone who loathed the first film, I'm feeling quite the opposite here.

Marc Webb's THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is set to swing into theaters on May 02, 2014.

And also!

Not a fan at all of Harry jumping ahead of Norman being Green Goblin. I thought the first Amazing Spiderman was a good film but an okay Spiderman film. I still prefer the Rami versions over Marc Webb's, but I think Andrew Garfield is a way better Spiderman/ Peter Parker than Tobey. There is things I like about both series if they blended in the good and out the crap we could have a great Spiderman movie.

Wow not in a good way!

I can't believe I'm thinking about not seeing a Spiderman film. I love Spiderman, but not liking the look of all the villains. The Lizard and Electro are my favorite Spidey villains and they never looked like a good adaption of the comics. Now Rhino a robot on 4 legs. Reminds me how they ruined the Sliver Samurai in The Wolverine. Give up FOX and Sony, and give the rights back to Marvel so they can give us way better versions.

terrible graphics

Sony needs to hire a new company for the graphics. The shots of Spidey swinging around don't look any better than the video games. I hope that they can tighten things up when it comes to electro, goblin and rhino.

1. Fuck the Rhino, he's a shitty villain no matter what he looks like.
2. Electro is intriguing and so is the casting of Foxx in the role. I'll wait to see what he does with the role before I judge the character. Same goes for the Goblin.

You're rehashing everything else, so you might as well just have him say the fucking line.
4. Maybe this time Andrew Garfield will finally understand that Spider-man is usually witty and sarcastic, not a dickhead.

Dmitri Smerdyakov / Chameleon?

Bit of a long shot, but that image with "Spy" written on it next to Spidey's head has a very distinctive look to it. The head shape in it looks very much like the Chameleon's mask, who is of course a Russian spy... another villain to add to the list!?

There are conclusions that people.....jump to.

This movie could be shit...I havent seen it yet. BUT I am not going to judge something on one picture. The Rhino is charging....what are the odds that the suit can sit up on its back legs and reveal his face more like the traditional Rhino we are use to? How come nobody has brought this up? I am sorry but Heath Ledgers Joker looked nothing like the comic books but since his take was SO good its changed how we look at the character even the comic book world has adapted the movie version. The Joker use to be a clean cut gangster not a sloppy terrorist.

Just at least wait to see the trailer before you rip it apart.

I am a Spider-Man fan, but that being said I hated the 3rd Raimi movie, loved the 2nd and thought the 1st was good for its time. I thought The Amazing Spider-Man blew Raimis out of the water in some aspects and fell well short in others.

I am just tired of some movies getting passes on some things and then others getting shit on for the exact same reason.

there is a huge difference between whiners not liking Heath Ledger being cast because he didn't fit the image in their heads of the comic/cartoon joker before ever seeing a glimpse of him and people criticizing the Rhino for being a completely different concept altogether from the character in the comic by being a mechanical rhino vehicle that he drives.

it has nothing to do with being identical to the comic, so if that is your argument it is garbage to begin with. nobody criticized Heath

it has nothing to do with being identical to the comic, so if that is your argument it is garbage to begin with. nobody criticized Heath Ledger after seeing stills of him and before ever seeing his performance, because nobody needs these characters to be identical, only capture the basic elements and essence of them. Heath Ledge did so, and then some, creating an entirely new take on him without abandoning the basic concept of the character. that cannot even compare to the concept of turning Rhino into a mechanical machine that is driven.
8:16PM on 12/03/2013
WTF?!? .....you are right..... A man inside a suit IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN A MAN INSIDE A MACHINE.....and driving? Its charging at Spider-Man....like a Rhino. And yes Heath Ledger was universally panned when he was casted as The Joker.....not until people saw him in action did they accept him.

wtf?!? - To be fair the majority of the film's content are based off the Ultimate Spiderman comics and not the golden or even silver age iterations. In the Ultimate comics, Rhino is in fact R.H.I.N.O., a guy in a stolen mech-suit. So Webb is following canon, albeit a more recent version.

Well would you look at that?

Now I am not going to rant and rave that this movie is going to be absolute crap. Because I can't make that call. I haven't seen it yet. Now that being said I will say I hate the design of Rhino, as does most every one it seems. I am all for doing what you have to to sale to a new generation. With that, you should at least try to keep some sort of tribute to the original work. This whole Harry Osborne Goblin thing is making me just a bit nervous too. I want to see Norman rock the glider

Ultimate Spider-Man did a good job with the Rhino. His suit was military armor that was kind of a cross between classic Rhino & Ironman. I wish they would have done that. This tank looks like something Michael Bay rejected for Transformers 5

stupid reality

Everyone will flock to see this movie hoping that it's good and it'll make a ton of money. Sony will retain the rights forever and will continue to make sub par movies. Quit trying to make superheros grounded in reality. For 2 hours + we get escape from our boring lives and enjoy a fantasy world.

Dane DeHaan presumably???

I don't get the speculation here. I think its pretty obvious that's not Chris Cooper. Dudes a good actor, but he isn't built like Dafoe was at the time he played the Goblin. Unless DeHaan is playing the Hobgoblin, but that would be re-goddamn-diculous

I disliked the first one as I found it to be a bland re-tread of ground that had been covered only too recently, and with far less zany energy than the Raimi movies. We didn't need to see his damn origins again, I don't care if the creative team had changed. I felt that they could've re-cast everyone, still used the lizard as the main enemy and just called it Spider-Man 4 and i would've had more respect for it.

This one however looks like they've gone utterly utterly bat-shit with it......and it's winning me over a little bit. It's taken my "I've seen this all before" attitude and gone "Yeah but have you seen this? And this? And this? And THISANDTHISANDTHIS?!?!".

It may suck, but at least it seems to already have a bit more life to it than the last one based on the poster alone, even if they are getting villains all wrong.

There just is no reason to turn Rhino into a mechanical weapon. If the Marvel films have taught us anything, it is that you can make the comic versions believable if you embrace and understand what about them will be entertaining, and thus believable within a world audiences already accept is fantastical. turning him into a some sort of vehicle he drives just screams of over thinking the concept and desperation to make it realistic. oh well, the first sucked and this doesn't look any better. that's what happens when you get a guy to make a super hero movie simply because he had some witty dialogue in a small budget romantic comedy.

I'm confused

Fans complain when studios decide to set films up in a trilogy format because they believe the characters themselves aren't confined to the simple storytelling methods, but when a creative team decides to do something, well, different, it gets met with angry letters and death threats (but in this case constant comparisons to Raimi's 2/3 good Spider-Man films). I personally enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man for what it was, and I look forward to its sequel.

Words cannot explain how deeply disappointed I am in the Rhino armor. That is simply terrible, the least they could have done is make it look remotely recognizable instead of thinking about toy sales.

Last one was bad, this one looks to have have thrown out one of the few things I liked about the last one which was the dark visual, color palette/saturation and seems to have pretty much copied the same tone as the Raimi films.
