Check out the James Bond/Queen skit from the Olympics & an awesome new Skyfall TV spot!

Jul. 28, 2012by: JoBlo

I went out for dinner with my girl tonight and returned home to watch the opening ceremony of the London Olympics, as directed by the great Danny Boyle. After 4 1/2 hours, my reaction was....meh. No offense but once you've seen the Chinese version of the Olympic opening ceremonies, it's hard to get excited about much else. And I know everyone in the world loves Paul McCartney also, but really? Hey Jude? It's a decent song, but it didn't look like any of the athletes knew what the eff it was.

That aside, the highlight of the night was easily the "skit" done between James Bond (aka Daniel Craig) and the actual Queen of England (aka the Queen of England!!), who hopped onto a helicopter together, hovered over the stadium and yes...jumped out in parachutes! Yeah, yeah...of course it wasn't the "real Queen" who jumped out of the heli (insert your own Elton John joke here), but it was well shot and nice to see them having fun with it. You can watch the entire video below.

But a nicer surprise awaited me upon rebooting my laptop and that was this pretty cool new SKYFALL TV spot starring the real James Bond (aka Daniel Craig) having himself a good ol' time. Check it out below!

I could hardly bare it for more than half hour and actually left the room to do some work (I work from home). The only parts I enjoyed were the Bond skit and Rowan Atkinson. Being a video editor myself it stood out like a sore thumb that they created the Bond video during the day but it transitioned to the stadium where it was pitch black. They really didn't think far enough ahead :)

Suave Bond

If Bond in Casino Royale was a 'squaddie' (Craig's words)? When and why did he become suave and sophist?
The cufflinks 'adjust' was excellent. It says so much about Bond's character. Under pressure his heart rate decreases, whereas boredom makes him stressed.

And people say Craig's Bond has no sense of humour! I really loved his interaction with the corgis, and that after 50 years in Her Majesty's Service, the Queen herself has decided to repay Bond the favour with an appearance in a short film of his. Winston Churchill's "cameo" was incredible too! And of course, that ending. This is the sort of unbridled, gleeful patriotism you only see in American movies - glad to see England get their share!

I'm pretty sure a lot of people were singing "Hey Jude'. Everyone loves Paul McCartney. How could you not?
That queen was excellent. So was Rowan Atkinson.

I was hoping the Queen would turn to him at one point and say, "Try to keep up, Mr. Bond!"

Thumb me down if you want but I thought the opening ceremony was full of heart and joy. And the way that torch was lit, you can't tell me that wasn't impressive and beautifully thought out. And the event was full of English flavour. Beijing did it their way and London did it a different way. I'm glad we didn't get a rehash of Beijing.
