Check out these fantastic unused Jurassic Park posters

Aug. 7, 2014by:

Everyone loves a good slice of poster artwork; the iconic ones may even be in your line of vision right now! If I can see my BACK TO THE FUTURE and E.T. poster; I know I am home. As you can imagine, the great ones probably weren’t a done deal with a first attempt; the art of Drew Struzan and John Alvin, as great as they are, likely saw many versions. Today, a number of unused posters for Steven Spielberg’s JURASSIC PARK have been unveiled in anticipation of the release of the book "The Art of John Alvin", a retrospective collection of his finest movie poster work.

Alvin’s resume of poster artwork includes greats like THE LION KING, BLADE RUNNER, ALADDIN, and BLAZING SADDLES. A lot of these unused JURASSIC PARK posters are pretty great, I’m curious to know why they didn’t use a few of them. Check them out bellow and be on the lookout for "The Art of John Alvin" which will be released on August 16th 2014.

Can you pick a favorite out of the 31 posters?

I get their rough sketches, but they're pretty lame, except for the second one. I really like that one though it would scare the shit out of kids. Even better!

That second one gave me chills

some good ones to look at for curiosity but the actual design they went with is still the most iconic and classic.

I like the Dinosaur X-ING idea as a teaser poster.
One assumes none of the ideas were knocked back purely because Spielberg's name was misspelled.

The one with Tim reaching for the non-meatasaurus is quite striking, and some of these designs were used for The Lost World (the eye peaking out from behind foliage). Ultimately though, I'm glad they went with a straight black poster with just the logo it makes you want to know what you're going to see when you watch the film!

I love the one that just says "THINGS" at the top of it. I'd love to see a film poster that just says "THINGS" on it, like, we all know what posters are, and the kind of things they say on them, so fuck it here's "THINGS...AND STUFF"

Galactus is sad that he isn't the only fearsome cloud monster in town.

Also, there's lots of misspelling of "Spielberg" going on!

Terrible

This are all terrible. Even for 1993 they are bad. Man alive I couldn't have imagined the movie with such a crappy poster. I've seen better posters drawn in grade 1.

All of these are great (except the one that just says THINGS).

But I am sad they never even tried one with:
God creates Dinosaurs.
God destroys Dinosaurs.
God creates Man.
Man destroys God.
Man creates Dinosaurs.
Dinosaurs eat Man.
