Check out Wolverine and Beast from the '70's in this set pic from X-Men: Days of Future Past

May. 13, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Director Bryan Singer has taken to the Twitter machine yet again, this time teleporting us to the 1970's for a groovy look at Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) in era-specific threads, while standing in a very familiar metallic hallway in the currently filming X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.  Nothing like paisley, leather, and courderoy to set the tone for the disco decade. Let's just hope neither of them are wearing platform shoes, although that would be pretty damn funny. But, not necessarily in a good way.

Check it out:

I'm looking forward to seeing X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (duh!), but I'm a bit apprehensive with Singer at the helm. He's a talented filmmaker, but I've enjoyed his non-event pictures (THE USUAL SUSPECTS, VALKYRIE) more than his big-budget fare. JACK THE GIANT SLAYER was kind of awful and I'm hoping that he can transcend that debacle.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, starring Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellan, Omar Sy,Jennifer Lawrence, Anna Paquin, Nicholas Hoult, Peter Dinklage, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Daniel Cudmore, Booboo Stewart, and Eric West is slated for theaters on July 18, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Is Hugh Jackman an irreplaceable actor as Wolverine (a la Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man) or can he be easily swapped out?

Sorry guys, but for me RDJ is irreplaceable as Tony Stark, but not as Iron man. Iron man 3 is the best film of the saga because Tony is the comic relief of a lot of armors fighting alone. In the next Avengers Tony Stark can suddenly die and we will see iron man anyway. The superhero, the "avenger", is Iron Man not Tony. So the big problem is to reboot the saga with a new guy playing Stark, but you can make Avengers 2, 3, 4 without RDJ and Its not a problem, any other guy could be Iron Man.

Wolverine is different because he's not under a hood and Jackman is great in the role. I only can see HJ replaced as Wolverine, when they replace everyone and stars the frachise again in 15 or 20 years.

As Wolvie 85 states about Jackman's wolvie not nearly as close to the comics Totally agree. However, through his talent, dedication, and charisma brought to the role he really made it his own and I've enjoyed it. It's not his fault its an r-rated role tied down to a pg-13. With 6 movies and counting he is a modern day Sean Connery ala 007. The ladies love him and the men want to be him...

Tidbit: Replaceable

I know I'm going to get heat for this one, but I think Jackman is replaceable. I mean I appreciate his dedication to the role, but the movie Wolverine is not even close to the comics Wolverine. Darren Aranofsky was on the right track on how he wanted Jackman to be for The Wolverine but a damn shame he dropped out. It's funny when people say that he nailed the role. Sadly the best Wolverine on film was the seconds Jackman was in First Class. But everyone has their opinions. Just stating

With all the set photos coming out, I'm finding it hard to get excited for this flick. First Class was awesome! And then the idea to combine both franchises, even more awesome. But now seeing it in action, not getting as hyped for it. There's just something that seems off, maybe because it's coming off more as a sequel to X3 opposed to a sequel to First Class.

This is going to end up more like X3

Than First Class/X2, and listen when this was first announced I was excited, I thought this movie was going to be a great idea and a great place to go from where First Class left us, now the more that comes out about it the worse I feel about it, Yes I get time travel is involved so its giving them some leeway but come on, Beast has already changed, he doesnt get to turn his powers on and off.... And I still really hate the fact that theres no Cyclops and Jean (and before someone says they

I still think they should have made a direct sequel to first class and introduce Cyclops, Storm and Jean as younger versions and saved DoFP for X4

oh and the extra tidbit, I dont think he's irreplaceable but even in the worst X-Men movies he has easily been the best part, save replacing him for a reboot

I get the feeling that it's probably part of the time travel element. My guess is that whomever from Singer's cast goes back in time suggest bringing Wolverine into the fold to help with the fight in the 70's and that's how Wolverine gets brought into the plot for the movie.

How was Jack the Giant Slayer awful? I understand that not all movies are great but was it awful? Do you have only two verdicts for a movie great and awfulor something? My 10 year old and myself heck the people around us at the cinema all enjoyed it. As for this movie, sure, there's going to be timeline changes and sh*t... but the lack of continuity across all the existing films was already so out of sync that it's possible that each movie was actually played out in parallel

I sure hope Singer plays that get out of jail card ...coz that's the only way he can bring them all inline with one another.

JACKMAN!

Man, every time I see that dude in the Wolvie get up, I become an excitable child

Never mind the fact that two of the movies stunk, never mind the fact that "The Wolverine" doesn't look like it's going to be as good as it should have been. I just have so much good will for that man and that part that I instantly wipe the slate clean each and every time.

I honestly never hate on a movie until I see the finished product, but looking at this picture doesn't worry me that young Hank is standing next to Wolvie, but the fact that they're standing in that Bryan Singer X-hallway...My biggest issue with this movie is the fact that we don't have Matthew Vaughn directing. I'm not saying this movie is going to be bad (we don't know that just yet of course) but the MAIN reason why First Class was one hell of a movie, is strictly because of Vaughn's influence and interpretation to an X-Men film, let alone comic book movies (Hence why I don't believe Jeff Wadlow can deliver Matthew Vaughn quality for Kick-Ass 2). On the other hand, the 'go fuck yourself' Wolvie cameo was not only brilliant, but just a perfect amount of time to pay homage to what Bryan Singer brought us, which is totally respectable for sure. But I'm having trouble processing that were getting the same guy who BAILED on the franchise a decade ago to make a superhero movie for the other competing brand of comics. Again, not saying that's bad, but my point here is that Matthew Vaughn gave us a different perspective to the X-Men, and I never thought I'd like McAvoy and Fassbender better together than Stewart and McKellan. Although I am a lover of X-men 1 and 2. Take into consideration the bar scene in First Class, awesome music, and an awesome showdown that is definitely out of Singer's style and alley. I don't think we'll have that style in DOFP even though we all know Vaughn is producing. Anyways, I'm still looking forward to this movie, but I guess it's appropriate to say that I need to see a trailer first before making any serious and appropriate speculation. I know Vaughn is attached to do The Secret Service, but I'd be down to wait a few extra years for him to tackle a sequel to First Class. Apparently, his sequel to First Class would have strictly focused on NONE of Singer's cast and a direct sequel to First Class but set in the 70's. One can only drool.

Tidbit: Should be swapped out

Jackman has been the reason Wolverine has always missed the mark, he's the wrong person. He's too much of a theater actor, he's about a foot too tall, he's not stalky enough. I can understand the casting, he works as A wolverine, but he's not right for THE wolverine as he's created in the comics.

But i'm definitely all in for a swap. And I don't see how they can't use camera tricks or digital enhancements to make Jackman shorter. Peter Jackson does it all the time for the LOTR and the Hobbit. So whats the excuse?

Does anyone else think Jackman is tired of playing Wolvie? I could see another actor taking the reigns like Peter Dinklage. JK, he's not hairy enough.

The Wolverine, F-Yeah!

As much as I like to talk trash about Singer, seeing a pic of Wolverine on the set of DOFP gets me really excited to see this movie. Extra Tidbit: I'm sure you could find actors who "fit the bill" better than Jackman in terms of height and "facial grittiness", but Jackman's passion, dedication, and love for the character is possibly unparalleled. He was, is, and should ALWAYS be The Wolverine.

Also, I'm sure RDJ absolutely loves being Stark so I'm not pointing fingers. Just saying that if anyone should want to retire a character, it should have been Jackman after Origins. It's not like he needs the cash or anything.

The picture is good and the characters are looking their parts. I think Singer is going to prove alot of the haters on this website wrong and I truly believe he is going to deliver us the best X-Men film yet. I just wish people would stop criticizing every little detail in every photo. The guy did give us two great X-Men films already and was able to get back a majority of the original cast to reprise their roles.

As for the extra tidbit, I can't see anyone else playing Wolverine. Jackman

I really don't think this is a matter of 'haters' in this particular context. It's really that everyone loved First Class and had moved on to a different interpretation of the X-Men. Don't get me wrong, like I still love Singer's X-Men films, but Vaughn brought us a different taste to something we were all looking for a full franchise out of.

Wolverine would have to go back into the vault

Magneto or melt him to the bone, so that he is so broken he goes on a walkabout and shelve him for a movie or two. He is not critical to a successful x-men movie (last one proved that) and he could be brought back with a new actor. I don't know how long he can keep bulking up and shredding to play a lead or ensemble. Make him absent for an 80s X-men movie (blue and gold teams tackling two issues that end up being related) and then for a 90s movie need his healing factor for a Brood or Legacy

Well, let's speak what REALLY matters for Studios: MONEY !
X-Men movie WITHOUT Wolvie = the LEAST successful movie of the franchise, period...
Therefore, there will ALWAYS be a Wolverine in EVERY X-Men films, whatever it's relevant or not.
Sad but true, and stop pretending it's,a,surprise for you all... It's simple business logic, and movies THAT sizes and budgets are NOT looked as 'Art' by Studios, but rather as cashflow...

I really missed Singer's presence in the third X-Men film, and I'm glad he's come back to try one more time. I really like X-Men, and X2. A little disappointed that there's no Night-Crawler, but I guess we should be thankful that they didn't include him into an already overstuffed roster of characters.

yes, I am sure that because Beast is in human form again in this photo it means there will not be an explanation and they are going to pretend it never happened.

do you really need your hand held through this process? you aren't watching the entire film when you see a single shot from the set during the making of. there is probably a lot that happens in this movie prior to whatever this scene is, and very possibly they even explain it. unless you are G.I. JOE RETALIATION. Storm Shadow

What the heck is going on here? Why is Beast looking human again? And why is Wolverine in the mansion in the 70's? Obviously it must have something to do with time travel, but it still raises a lot of questions.
Also, people need to cut Singer a break. X2 remains one of the greatest comic book films to date. X-Men is a solid film when you consider it came out before the superhero craze. And Superman Returns had its flaws but wasn't as bad as some people make it out to be. We have Singer

Nice pic but...

The 70`s? Didnt just Beast turned blue and furry in 1962?
other than that I am digging the 70s look and the classic metalic hallway.
