Check out Wolverine's new uniform in X-Men: Days of Future Past

12.16.2013by:

Before you wet yourselves, it is not the iconic yellow costume that was teased in a deleted scene from James Mangold's THE WOLVERINE. While fans wait with bated breath to see Hugh Jackman don the immortal costume from the pages of the X-Men comic books, director Bryan Singer is dressing Logan in new duds in the upcoming X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and they are different than what we have seen and yet still the same.

In keeping with the utilitarian costumes we have seen in the alternate future timeline of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, this cover to French movie magazine shows us an obscured look at Wolverine's future outfit. Check it out below.

As you can see, it harkens back to the black leather outfits that earned Bryan Singer the ire of fanboys worldwide from the first X-MEN movie. While it still doesn't look very Wolverine to me, it is better than the costume he used to wear. My biggest concern is that X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is going to be a more grim film, visually, and dressing everyone in black won't make for a very engaging 3D experience when the film hits theaters.

I am going to hold out hope that with Bryan Singer and possibly Hugh Jackman coming back for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE that we will finally get Logan dressed in something more akin to the comics. At the very least the sequel to THE WOLVERINE will continue to show us the true capabilities of the character on the big screen.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST hits theaters on May 23, 2014.

He got his adamantium back in comics after magneto pulled it out of him, so if this is a future Logan sent back to the past he will look older and have his metal claws and bones. Quit trying to get comics based movies to make any kind logical sense, it will hurt your brain needlessly.

Chances of them making it through the movie without someone making a reference to Professor X previously having had hair? Almost zero I reckon.

They're decent, but I mean this is the same costume Singer said he wouldn't go back to. What disappoints me is that they don't resemble the comics in the least, or at least have the red and black X symbol on their suit.

Too generic

The costume looks like a snake-eyes reject from the G.I Joe movies because its kinda bland and lazy.

Why did they even bother?

First let me say that I love comic book movies ,but I don't really know that much about comics, so if this sounds like I'm being snarky, I'm actually serious. Who made Wolverine's costume? Unlike Bruce Wayne, Tony Stark or Peter Parker, I don't see Logan as the type to make a costume for himself. Has this ever been explained?

My guess is the Canadian government made him the costume when he first joined Alpha Flight, a Canadian team of superheroes, before he quilted the team and joined the X-Men.

There was the yellow costume from the seventies, the green costume from the eighties and the black and yellow costume from the nighties. He also wore a different costume when he went by the name patch.

Even though I would love to see him FINALLY don the iconic blue and yellow suit for this film or the upcoming Apocalypse film, the suit he has now looks really good and towards the tone they are going for, for this film.

I also love the fact that Wolverine is starting to show his age a little.

I'm seeing that too. Doesn't look like it's just from the flare. Looks like there really is yellow and blue parts of the outfit.

If they make action figures, it'll be a great base figure for a Batman.

There's no winning when it comes to fanboys and superhero costumes. Half will complain it doesn't look exactly like the comic book, even though a book and movie are different mediums. And if it does look like the comic book, half the people will complain it looks cheesy (like Captain America in Avengers). Just wait for the internet to explode when the first images of Affleck's batman costume appears.

its not that. I wouldn't ever expect to see a costume like that on screen, but the way Singer does it, it doesn't seem like a costume at all. there are ways to keep the black that he loves and make it seem like a real costume and not something that was bought in a Metal Gear/Matrix store. Funnt thing is that I only feel this way about certain Marvel film costumes, the DC ones have been alright for me, though I would Like to see a Batman costume that is more easier to move in, though he dresses

QUESTION ABOUT WOLVERINE

kind of off topic but...

**SPOILERS**

in "The Wolverine" Logan goes to Japan based on interest in an offer to strip himself of his powers. This movie took place AFTER X3 (where Jean dies) but in X3, there was a weaponized "cure" that shoots darts that instantly remove your mutant powers (Mystique instantly loses her powers).

so... what the what?

1. The cure wasn't permanent since we saw at the end that Magneto's powers were starting to come back.

2. ***SPOILERS***
Wolverine didn't go to Japan because he was offered a cure. He went to Japan because his friend was dying, then the old man offered him the cure/power swap once he got there, which Wolverine rejected. The power swap that was done was done against Wolverine's will.

I never liked the Xmens costumes in the movies. First class was a step in the right direction, but Singer has this thing about black, weird looking suits

Honestly, the suit thing doesn't bother me that much. First Class was a very good movie but Magneto showing up in the end with a traditional look is a reason why we should fear trying to replicate the comic book look too much.
