Chick and chompers in the new poster for Shark Night 3D

May. 23, 2011by: Dave Davis

Nothing like a good killer shark flick, right?

Well, despite this new poster's terrifying teeth (and the nakedness opportunities inherent in the genre and location), the victims will likely be swallowed whole sans gore, considering SHARK NIGHT 3D's planned PG-13 rating. You don't need gratuitous nudity and bloodshed to make an entertaining movie, but in a case like this, it's probably a really good idea.

The movie, due in September, comes from director David R. Ellis (SNAKES ON A PLANE, FINAL DESTINATION 2) and features Sara Paxton (THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT), Joel David Moore (AVATAR, HATCHET), Dustin Milligan (EXTRACT), Katharine McPhee (THE HOUSE BUNNY), Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Sinqua Walls and Chris Zylka.

The synopsis: Arriving by boat at her family’s Louisiana lake island cabin, Sara (Sara Paxton) and her friends quickly strip down to their swimsuits for a weekend of fun in the sun. But when star football player Malik (Sinqua Walls) stumbles from the salt-water lake with his arm torn off, the party mood quickly evaporates. Assuming the injury was caused by a freak wake-boarding accident, the group realizes they have to get Malik to a hospital on the other side of the lake, and fast.

But as they set out in a tiny speedboat, the college friends discover the lake has been stocked with hundreds of massive, flesh-eating sharks! As they face one grisly death after another, Sara and the others struggle desperately to fend off the sharks, get help and stay alive long enough to reach the safety of dry land.

Extra Tidbit: If there are two things I learned from PIRANHA 3D, it's that A) Elisabeth Shue still looks great, and B) the combination of bared breasts and watery carnage is surprisingly satisfying.

Hisshiss at the haters. I need another killer shark movie in my life and this will hopefully be it! All these shitty straight to DVD shark flicks can fuck off. I want big screen carnage. A Pg-13 would suck but I wont completely write it off. Cool poster by the way.

An R-rating doesn't equal good movie. But it makes a bad movie better. Battle: LA was a bad movie that would have been watchable if it were hardcore, not some limp-dick PG-13 war movie. Way to disrespect the marines by sanitizing the dangers they face.

They're so stupid

Dammit. The only thing that can save this is hardcore blood/gore, T+A, and a bad ass soundtrack.

Movies like Pirhana 3D don't come around often. It was campy, shallow fun. Unlike that film, which relished in it's campy, R rated fun, this film has a synopsis that A. is almost completely devoid of logic, even by B-movie monster standards (hundreds of MASSIVE sharks? in a lake in Louisiana? Umm....what?) and B. doesn't seem like it could last even 80 min. The PG-13 rating doesn't help. Seriously, if you're going to make a film like this, go big or go home. Blood, guts, and boobs. That's all

That shark in the poster looks fucking horrible. If they're anything like that in the movie it'll be shit.

Even if it does get a PG-13 rating, the poster and the description are both awesome. I don't see how they can get away with a PG-13 given the "arm torn off" and the "grisly deaths" but maybe they're just exaggerating to spark interest.

Even if it's PG-13 rated it will be a hit. Sarcastically and sadly true. C'mon man!
