Chinese entertainer Han Gen joins Transformers 4 with Mark Wahlberg and Nicola Peltz

Han Gen/Transformers 4

Oh, there are humans in TRANSFORMERS 4? I figured since most of the news lately about the film has been pictures of flashy vehicles that Michael Bay wasn't going to have any people in TRANSFORMERS 4. Except for at least one hot chick. Gotta have the hot chick.

Over the weekend Bay and Paramount announced that entertainer Han Gen will be the latest actor joining the franchise. Han Gen is from China and is a famous Mandopop singer. Han Gen is also a very talented dancer, and has done some film and television work. He's incredibly popular in China and the addition of Han Gen might help TRANSFORMERS 4's international totals. Not that a sequel to a film that did over $700 million in foreign markets needs any help, but you know what I mean.

I can't help but be at least a little cynical about TRANSFORMERS 4. Bringing Dinobots and Galvatron into the mix might make things interesting, but will it make it good? Will TRANSFORMERS 4 be more of the same, or will there be enough changes with the characters, designs and story that it won't feel like a quick reboot for a cash grab?

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Kelsey Grammer, Stanley Tucci, and Sophia Myles, TRANSFORMERS 4 will hit theaters June 27th, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: I'm a little surprised they didn't get Dwayne Johnson for TRANSFORMERS 4. Sh*t, I hope I didn't jinx it...

As an Asian guy, I'm all for representation in Hollywood films and am glad to see more Asian actors snag roles in big blockbusters, but I just hope that a) this doesn't end up overly pandering to the Mainland audience and b) Michael Bay keeps his racial stereotype-fueled humour in check.

It's kind of funny to think back and wonder, 'Oh yeah, how come these movies are mostly about people?'

So something "sub par" like this is going to make alot of money, but something awesome and entertaining like Pacific Rim doesn't make alot money opening weekend.

Doesn't make sense.

I'm surprised it took the film this long to include Chinese cast since it will be filmed in China. Case in point: Iron Man 3 where Chinese casts are only on screen in Iron Man 3 that was shown in China, not anywhere else. And don't quote me on this but I remember reading somewhere that Bay did offer the role for Transformers 4 to The Rock but he was busy filming Fast & Furious 6 (or some other films) so the role went to Mr. Wahlberg.

An Asian Shia LaBeouf?

That picture makes this dude look like Shia. I my be wrong but I don't think so. In any case, let's hope he's talented and that it comes across in the film.

Ooh yes, I bet he's going to be under-used and forced to do an awful Ken Jeong impression. But then again this movie will probably do a swift damage-control via a thrilling battle in Tianamen Square (stealth symbolism, *wink*) and an epic showdown on The Great Wall.
Yep, the Chinese have ARRIVED!
