Chlo Grace Moretz is just a poor, lonely little girl in the trailer for Carrie

Apr. 4, 2013by: Niki Stephens

Did the sneak preview for CARRIE make you anxious to see what the film had to deliver? Well, wait no more. The trailer has finally arrived.

What do we think of Kimberly Peirce's vision? It looks pretty damn good if you ask me. A nice little update from the CARRIE we know of 1976. Julianne Moore and Chlo Grace Moretz are really the sell here, without them this trailer may not be so sweet. The relationship between the two already shows strongly in what little we do get to see, so I imagine that the rest that we get from those two will be pretty on par. What are the differences? Well to quote my fellow editor, Paul: "Cell phones and probably no buckwheat full frontal." I look forward to comparing the Carrie that Moretz brings to the screen versus Sissy Spacek's. The original will always be classic though no matter what.

Plot: A sheltered high school girl unleashes her newly developed telekinetic powers after she is pushed too far by her peers.

It's a Good Trailer

Buuuuuut... that doesn't always translates to a good film. I do like how they play up to the inevitable conclusion we all know is coming. Looks better than I thought it would.

Chloe Moretz and particularly Julianne Moore look like they are definitely on here. But the problem remains, I think I've seen this movie before... yep, definitely seen it. Anyone who knows anything about the previous movie, this doesn't look like much new. Anyone who doesn't might find some surprises. Showing telekinesis in-frame might seem kind of cool to some, but I find it distracting because my scrutinizing mind is busy picking apart how effects like that were actually achieved, whereas

Still, Kimberly Pierce gets the benefit of the doubt from me simply for making "Boys Don't Cry."

I've seen the first film...and this trailer did a damn fine job of showing all the key scenes/points...all in a few minutes...right down to the pranksters' car about to get demolished. Someone on here the other day said trailers nowadays...give away far too much. It’s very hard to disagree with that. Then again...I feel cheated when trailers show scenes that aren’t in the movie...like the scene from Predators when all the red triangular targets light up on Adrien Brody. I recall

Then again...I feel cheated when trailers show scenes that aren’t in the movie...like the scene from Predators when all the red triangular targets light up on Adrien Brody. I recall reading an interview with Robert Rodriguez who said that this scene was specifically for the trailer...and that trailers are supposed to sell us the movie...not show us scenes from it...or something like that. He's got a point...but still that was a cool scene that should have been in the movie…and perhaps not in the trailer…if Rodriguez really felt that way. I mean c 'mon...how many of us wanted to see that movie with Catherine Zeta Jones and Sean Connery where she's some kind of acrobatic thief (forgive me...I only remember one thing about that movie!) and in the trailer...you see that cool thing she does when going under a laser (hey dudes...I don't spoil movies for people)...how would you have felt had that scene not been present in the actual movie? My pervy side would have been so let down. :o)

This looks surprisingly good. I thought it was going to be something to brush aside and say meh. But I think I will definitely watch this.

Though the movie looks solid (I'm very much looking forward to seeing it), this was a true case of a preview giving away the entire movie, and I don't just mean for those of us who know the novel or have watched that first film. Joe Q. Ordinary could sit down, watch that preview, and go, "Ohhhh, okay, that was a good movie." Preview fail, but movie...probably awesome.

This should be fun. I think a lot of people miss the point. This is some one who is being bullied who is suddenly able to strike back. This should do pretty well me thinks.

Nope

Looks horrible. Chloe looks like she's trying to hard. The whole thing looks cheesy and forced. No thanks.

Looks great! But I wish they thought about the younger audience that maybe has not seen the original movie or read the book, and not gave away the end so much

No...

Chloe is way too pretty for this role. There was no real difference between her in her sloppy clothes and her in that prom dress. She should had given the character a tick or something like that. She is better looking than the people who were shown involved in that prank.

I didn't mean to make it sound creepy. All I was saying is that it isn't believable that Chloe would be an outcast when she doesn't look the part. Sissy at least looked out there and a bit de-ranged.

While most of us will probably have a hard time buying Chloe Grace-Moretz as an unloved outcast and misfit (exactly as Elder Predator says), there's no denying that she's a good actress and will probably put in a stunning performance.

This looks fucking awful

Moretz is a lousy actress and far too pretty for this part. The dialogue sounds awful, and visually it just looks like a sloppier version of the De Palma.

Looks good, but...

Damnit trailer-editors. I think we're all pretty up to speed on the story of Carrie, there is no need to show us the entire movie. Just splicing together scenes from the first 30 minutes would have been fine.

Looks well done, but...

The trailer hits mostly everything we saw in the original adaptation. Hell I even thought it was set in the 70's until you see the girls in the bathroom taking pictures of Carrie with their smart phones.

Hopefully there's more to it.

Looks good.

While I will admit that it looks good, I think casting Chloe was the wrong choice for this movie. Now that isn't because I think she's a bad actress, far from it. The problem I have is we all know that Chloe is a beautiful young woman who every guy in that high school would be dying to date plus the fact that Chloe has always exuded confidence and a backbone in her roles and in life. That to me makes the bullying not work right off the bat. It was like Emma Stone in EASY A and she has such a

Whereas with Sissy in the original, she was very soft spoken and so timid which made her transformation at the end completely surprising and horrific. I'll still see it as it looks very solid.

LOOKS FANTASTIC!

This is one of my top must see films of the year. Yeah, the original film is a classic and is good in it's own right but it did not stick to the source material very much, which this film seems to be doing. I like that it isn't just copying the original film, but seems to be a new adaptation of the novel.

Looks solid

I love Chloe Grace Moretz. That kid is going to win an oscar one day. I can't wait. That being said, this trailer shows way to much of the story. Lots of people have seen the movie and know the story, but many people haven't seen the original or read the book. It kind of ruin everything, except for the very end.
