Chris Carter has Simon Pegg in mind for a role in the potential third X-Files movie

Aug. 26, 2013by: Alex Maidy

I was and always shall be a huge fan of THE X-FILES. It bordered on obsession that was rarely matched until some shows in recent years. Every now and then, I revisit the old episodes and enjoy the hell out of them despite being incredibly dated technologically. I may have even been one of the few who enjoyed THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE and still hold out hope that we may get another mythology-based story featuring Mulder and Scully.

X-FILES creator Chris Carter has been under the radar for quite a long time but has recently emerged with new television series at Amazon (THE AFTER, about the Apocalypse) and a possible conspiracy based show over at AMC. I will be happy to see his style return to the tube, but where the hell is my new X-FILES movie?

According to Carter, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are down for another adventure and it all remains with 20th Century Fox if they want to proceed. Carter says while THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE was forced to be a standalone movie due to a restricted budget, the third movie would address the lingering questions regarding the alien invasion that, in the show's timeline, should have happened in December 2012. I know that comics and other tie-ins have addressed these stories, but nothing beats a big screen spectacle.

Guest stars in THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE included Billy Connolly, Xzibit, and Amanda Peet, but Carter has someone else in mind for a part in the third film, if it happens:

"Gillian Anderson worked with Simon Pegg on a movie and told me he was a big fan," Carter said. "We actually thought about putting him in the second movie, but there was no part for him. I certainly would think about him if we were to go forward in any way."

Simon Pegg in an X-FILES movie? Hell f*cking yes! I would see that in a heartbeat. Make it happen, Fox!

Extra Tidbit: If no third movie happens, at least reboot the show for TV!

Yes, please! Not just Mulder and Scully, I'd love to see Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish characters return too, even if it's just cameo roles.

Cool

I think its a smart ploy to get traction. Pegg is getting famous lately and it wouldn't hurt adding him. Nevertheless, I'm a huge fan and would be the first in line to watch when it happens.

Pegg would make a nice addition and an addition I would welcome.

I hope we get one more X-Files film. I feel there's at least one more story to tell involving the alien invasion and the whole world ending in 2012. And also the fact that Duchovny AND Anderson want to come back.

Tidbit ...

Are you for real? A reboot of X-Files? Heeeeeell naaaw. Rebooting 9 seasons of classic (or well at least around 6 or something) TV would be a crime I wouldn't be able to handle. And seeing somebody else as Mulder and Scully? Don't see why anyone would want that.

Regarding the actual article I'm all for a new film, the last one was certainly not as bad as some would make it out to be. Still it missed a lot of the shows edge (aliens and monsters). Bring either of the two back for a new film.

I Liked The Two Feature Films

Fight the Future was a film made for Summer. I Want To Believe was not a film made for Summer that got released in Summer which is one reason why it wasn't as big a hit as it should've been. It would've been better as a Halloween release maybe even released in Winter. In any case, there should be more than two X-Files films in the World considering how many Twilight and Twilight ripoff films there are.

would love to see Pegg in there somewhere. He's a great actor. I didn't hate the last x files film, but did enjoy the first one much more. Hopefully the third one can give us a much better time at the theaters!

A Ridley Scott X-Files movie?

I saw Prometheus recently. I didn't like it. However, I wouldn't mind if Ridley Scott's Alien universe and Chris Carter's X-Files universe were one in the same. They are both Fox properties. Imagine Mulder and Sculley facing Aliens and Predators. In fact, they could have the Predators fighting on the side of Earth. Imagine Mulder and Sculley facing Aliens and Predators. In fact, they could have the Predators fighting on the side of Earth. Perhaps the alien race in Prometheus seeded other planets with DNA and the life on the other planets became violent and they decided to destroy all the lifeforms they were responsible for creating, including humanity. They tried to wipe out the Predators before with Aliens but the Predators defeated the Aliens. The aliens in X-Files were going to destroy the Earth in 2012 but the Predators invaded their homeworld instead and killed them all. Now all that's left of the aliens of the X-Files or Prometheus are those who were off world when their planet was destroyed. Then comes the moral question: are we destined to become Predators? Were the aliens from Prometheus right to want to wipe out mankind? And if the aliens weren't the good guys then why were there people in the government helping them? I think it dovetails quite nicely.
