Chris Columbus is not directing the next Superman film

I know you were worried sick all night about it, but it's okay, you can breathe now.

Chris Columbus is not the next person to direct the upcoming Superman film. According to Collider, Warner Bros. has not extended an offer to Columbus.

To bring you back into the loop (which doesn't much matter now), it was a slow news day yesterday and /Film went a-hunting for something worth writing about. The site caught wind of the Chris Columbus/Superman news from a site called, "Superman Homepage". They threw out the fact that an, "offer has been sent out to Chris Columbus to direct the 3D Superman reboot for December 2012". They talked about getting their news from a "studio insider" who said this, "David Goyer really wanted to direct but nobody from either studio think he's good in that arena. He's great at coming up with story and ideas, like George Lucas. It's his execution where he's weak which is why people like Chris and Jonathan Nolan and Guillermo Del Toro have had the best results with his scripts."

While I can't disagree with the Goyer logic from the "studio insider", I just can't imagine Warner Bros. offering Columbus the job. Columbus has directed some memorable films during his career, but as of late movies like I LOVE YOU BETH COOPER and PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS haven't been doing the trick. Honestly, he's really not the right guy for the job, regardless of the fact that he directed two HARRY POTTER films.

Perhaps I'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt. Bottom line, the rumor was debunked.

Extra Tidbit: While I didn't hate SUPERMAN RETURNS, I think bringing the son element into it was a little much. Even though, I'm sure most of you already know that.
