Chris Hemsworth unsure about status of Star Trek 4

What with all this hubbub around Quentin Tarantino’s STAR TREK, we forget that an idea for STAR TREK 4 was floating around from J.J. Abrams. This grand idea involved Chris Pine’s James T. Kirk encountering his dead father, George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth). How this would work out, who knows, but as far as Hemsworth knows, the movie may not ever happen.

Hemsworth said during an interview with IGN that, like us, he hasn’t heard anything about the proposed movie since the idea first came out. "I don’t know. It’s a reminder to call J.J. and ask the same question because I haven’t heard any updates on it either,” he said. We first heard about the fourth film before STAR TREK BEYOND’s release, but the subpar performance of the third film may have pumped the breaks a bit.

Hemsworth has rocketed to fame since his small role as Kirk on the doomed USS Kelvin in 2009’s STAR TREK, starring as Thor in the MCU and working with the biggest names in the industry. Hemsworth was asked more about Abram’s pitch, and said he was excited to see what they had planned:

Just the fact that he had a way of reinserting the character into the world. I can’t say too much — there’s not even a script — but I always thought, maybe, there was a possibility of him coming back in some way. I didn’t know how or what, but he was pretty enthusiastic about what they had planned.

In the last month or so steam has been building on Tarantino’s proposed Star Trek movie, and the movie is set to be written by Mark L. Smith with Tarantino directing. That all sounds too good to be true, but if the film does fall through (it probably will), at least we know the studio and Abrams have a backup story ready to go. The story would no doubt involve some sort of inter-dimensional time travel, but that seems too confusing to even fathom. My mind is all on the Tarantino flick, but maybe he dug Abrams idea and is doing something with that. Perhaps Paramount should get the memo and realize you should put Hemsworth in all your movies. All of them. He can do anything.

Catch Hemsworth this summer in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.
