Chris Nolan's first film Following is coming to IFC OnDemand and features a brand new trailer!

07.20.2010

INCEPTION is Christopher Nolan's new masterpiece, picking apart people's brains everywhere, doing very well at the box office, and just generally being the sort of movie that can turn people into bona fide film lovers.

And if you're anything like me, then you're probably wanting to go back through Nolan's previous catalog of films, revisiting and re-examining, looking for new insights into the modus operandi of one of today's most thought-provoking filmmakers. I just re-watched MEMENTO and THE PRESTIGE, and I certainly found a new appreciation and perspective for those films after watching INCEPTION, which was pretty cool. Films can be great like that, no?

Today comes news that IFC Films will be "re-releasing" Nolan's first film FOLLOWING. The term "re-release" is a bit misleading though, as the film will not be coming to theaters, but instead, be shown on IFC's OnDemand service. It's a great little film, and provided you don't already own it or have seen it via rental or Netflix or whatever, here's another opportunity for you guys to be able to check it out.

Official Press Release: As the hype around INCEPTION comes to a peak, IFC Films is proud to present Christopher Nolan's debut feature film, FOLLOWING, available nationwide on demand via IFC In Theaters.

A fascinating introduction to the talent and vision of a filmmaker who is fast becoming one of the major American directors of our time, FOLLOWING originally debuted in 1998, and enjoyed a quick succession of Festival prizes and wild critical acclaim. The film is a sly neo-noir thriller which follows a writer who picks out strangers at random from the crowded streets of London shadows them see where they go, how they spend their days. FOLLOWING features the innovative blend of high-minded style and genre elements that Nolan has now made his trademark.

The film will enjoy a three month period of availability on demand via cable providers Comcast, Cox, Cablevision, Time Warner, Bright House, Charter and Insight.

Why is this news? Following has been on streaming netflix for a long time now. I've seen it on cable many times before. So what makes this so special?

Definitely gonna check this out again on Netflix, it's been awhile, but isn't there a batman poster in Cobb's room?

Not a poster, but one of the apartments that Cobb breaks into has a yellow oval Batman sticker on the front door.

I actually watched this movie for the first time a few weeks back (it is on Netflix Instant) and really enjoyed it. It def has a Nolan feel to it in a Noir type way... worth checking out. It is really short, only about 70 minutes i believe

Spidey

Nolan has duel citizenship, he was born in London, but spent his childhood in Chicago. Soooo, he's British-American.

I love Nolan. All of his films are stars and garters above the rest. However, if there was a film I love the least out of his, it would be the Following. Its good, different, well written, however it plays like Memento and Prestige in that the story is out of order and jumbled. This worked well for Memento and Prestige, but when the Following is over it seemed kinda unnecessary; I think it couldve been just as good with a linear story line. But dont let let deter anyone from seeing it, any

I cant recall the title, but apparently its about a guy trapped in a room with a fly that he just can catch.

Following is FANTASTIC

One of the greatest low-budget films ever made. For 6 grand, this film shits all over Clerks or El Mariachi. Nolan here proves why he's a genius because he can do so much more with less than many other writer/directors.

For those who haven't seen Insomnia, you should check it out. It has an emotional heart and soul that is sadly lacking from Inception.

I highly recommend this film! I remember watching it with some friends back in college, a few weeks after seeing memento. I've been a fan of Nolan ever since.

Following has Easter Eggs from the future!!!

It's weird how the guy in the movie is named Cobb. That leads me to think that Nolan has been wanting to do Inception for years. Also another cool thing, in the film they open a door and on the door there is a Batman signal. A BATMAN SIGNAL! I'm sure if I watch it again there will be a reference to a movie that he hasn't made yet.

Never seen this movie, but after seeing the trailer and after seeing and owning all of Nolan's other films (except Insomnia), this is a film I must have on dvd.

Funny that Insomnia is the only Nolan film I don't own. It wasn't even that I didn't like it but I don't find it as rewatchable as the others.
