Chris Pine to play Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman

07.28.2015

Long rumoured to be in talks for the role of Steve Trevor in WONDER WOMAN, it looks like we can finally officially attach Chris Pine's name to the upcoming DC film. The Wrap reports that Chris Pine has just closed a multi-picture deal, which includes options for future sequels, to star alongside Gal Gadot in WONDER WOMAN.

The plot of WONDER WOMAN is still unknown but The Wrap's sources say that Steve Trevor will be no mere romantic interest to Gal Gadot's Diana Prince as Chris Pine will have plenty of opportunities to show off his own action prowess. In the character's original comic origin, Steve Trevor was an intelligence officer during WWII whose plane crashed on Paradise Island. Trevor was later found and nursed back to health by Diana and the two found themselves falling in love. Heavens, that's just adorable.

WONDER WOMAN will be directed by Patty Jenkins, who replaced Michelle MacLaren several months ago, and written by Jason Fuchs. Gal Gadot's first appearance as the character will come in BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE on March 23, 2016 and WONDER WOMAN is scheduled to hit theaters on June 23, 2017.

Sound off in the comments, is Chris Pine a good choice for Steve Trevor?

He'll be a good Trevor, but it's a nothing part. If he was a possibility as Green Lantern and settled for Steve Trevor it's a real shame. He would've made a fucking great Hal Jordan.

OMG...

Isn't he the luckiest sonofagun in the world? First he's with Zoe Saldana and now with Gal Gadot.

Lucky bastard.

Good choice!

Steve Trevor is a great character and became even more badass in the comics with the New52. He's the human among all the Gods and helps put the Justice League together and even a League to fight them in case they become dangerous. So there are a lot of opportunities than just being Wonder Woman's love interest.
And I can't wait to see him interact with Viola David's Amanda Waller!

Would have been cool to see im suit up as Green Lantern, but Hal would've been to close to Kirk and all.

Not being a DC comic book fan forgive me for any lack of understanding...but with regard to "He's the human among all the Gods" isn't that Batman's role...or even Green Arrow?

This is really really strange...

Bringing in a higher profile actor to overshadow the lead of the movie doesn't seem like the smartest plan. It's also really going to confuse movie goers that aren't familiar with the comics. They're going to be looking at someone as big of a star as Chris Pine and they're going to expect him to turn into a superhero at some point in the 6 films he shows up in and all he'll ever be is WW's boyfriend.

They did the same thing with Thor and Man of Steel and it worked out just fine.

Surprisingly overpowered for the role

Okay, his other parts haven't set the world on fire, but he's still Captain Kirk and that counts for a lot. I guess DC wanted a more recognizable name since Gal Gadot is relatively unknown.

I like him well enough so I hope he does well in the role.

Its like getting Amy Adams for Lois Lane or Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. Big name for the romantic lead opposite relative unknown superhero.

Really disappointed that he chose to play Trevor instead of Hal; he would have been perfect. But at least he'll be involved in some capacity in the DCU and the fact that DC is surrounding major talent around Gadot is another positive as well.

Since Pine is out, my backup choice would be Jake Gyllenhaal. The guy's career is on fire right now and would bring in some much needed depth and heavy talent to the DCU.

Pine certainly has the Playboy and an All American look for Steve Trevor.

Then I wonder who Scott Eastwood is playing in Suicide Squad. I was really hoping he Eastwood would play Trevor. I am not a Chris Pine fan. I don't know why, I'm just not impressed by this guy. He was great in Smokin' Aces but he was also unrecognizable. He's as good a choice as any for Kirk as guess. I didn't want pine anywhere near the DCCU but I'm 100% completely happy that HE'S NOT PLAYING GREEN LANTERN.

I dig it, glad to see some established star power attached to the flick. We've finally got a proper DC-Marvel arms race for A-list actors.
