cinemacon 2016

What is Cinemacon? Well, I'm glad you asked. Cinemacon is the Official Convention of The National Association of Theater Owners (NATO), where studios debut exclusive presentations on their upcoming slate for the next year and exhibitors and trade organizations share the latest and greatest in theatrical technology and entertainment. So, kind of like Comic Con for just movies.

In addition, celebrities and filmmakers are on hand to help promote and create buzz for the films they're involved in, supplying interviews and taking part in promotional activities in support of their films. It's a bunch of cool info, cool footage, and cool gathering, all under the roof of Las Vegas. First up is a batch of new and posters, banners, and theater standees from the main Cinemacon floor at The Colisseum. You'll notice first looks at posters for THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN, PATRIOT'S DAY, HELL OR HIGH WATER (formerly COMANCHERIA), and more, as well as some familiar peeks at upcoming releases. Check 'em out below!

the girl on the train, poster, emily blunthell or high water, jeff bridges, chris pinepatriots day, poster, mark wahlberg, peter berg, john goodmansnowden, oliver stone, joseph gordon-levitt

Look for our continued coverage throughout the week, including interviews, reaction videos and write-ups for studio panels, and anything cool that may arise from the city of sin!

Hell on High Water reminds me of the book jacket I'd find on a worn paperback from the '80s in a used book store. IMDb has it listed as Comancheria, though I assume that's just the working title.

Cap and Apocalypse Look Great, Miss Peregrine Scares Me

The "Captain America: Civil War" standup is pretty awesome and something I would love to have in my media room but the "X-Men: Apocalypse" is the coolest. That is the first time I have seen Apocalypse look as bad ass as I thought he should and the coloring looks much better than the neon purple look he had in some of the earlier promotional photos that were released.

Nothing else really stood out to me and while I am a huge fan of the of "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" that cutout looks awful. Burton needed to go in a style more inline with "Edward Scissorhands" or "Batman" but that picture makes it look like a bright, cheery CGI crapfest in the same vein as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" or "Alice in Wonderland". I really hope Burton doesn't screw this film up because it is an awesome, original story that could be a huge box office and critical success with franchise written all over it. Either Guillermo Del Toro or Peter Jackson would have been much better choices to step behind the camera for this film. Hopefully that is just a terrible cutout and not indicative of what the final product will be, the trailer was a bit of a relief but I still wish somebody that has shown an ability to bring a darker vision while still bringing a fun, character driven film in the last decade like Del Toro or Jackson had been hired. I'm really pulling for this film as I am a huge fan of Ransom Riggs novels and I can see how awesome this film could be if handled properly, fingers crossed!

Great photos.

Love the Civil War, and Nice Guys pieces, and the poster for Hell on High Water reminds me of No Country For Old Men.

I thought the same thing about "Hell on High Water" and "Nice Guys" looks great, a potential "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" level sleeper (both of which were written and directed by Shane Black).
