Claire Foy is the top choice for Lisbeth Salander in Dragon Tattoo relaunch

David Fincher's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO was intended to continue onwards and adapt THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE and THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNETS' NEST with both Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara reprising their roles, however, after frequent delays, it was announced that the entire franchise would be relaunched with an adaptation of David Lagercrantz's "The Girl in the Spider's Web." Fede Alvarez (DON'T BREATHE) soon signed on to direct the film for Sony and the search began for an entirely new cast.

It seems that the hunt for just who will play Lisbeth Salander is on the homestretch as it has been reported that Claire Foy (The Crown) is the current front-runner for the role. It's expected that Foy will be given the offer to star in THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB soon, but that scheduling could wind up being a deal breaker as the actress is also meeting with Damien Chazelle to star in FIRST MAN alongside Ryan Gosling, who is set to play Neil Armstrong. Variety's Justin Kroll adds that Felicity Jones and Lily James are also in the mix for the Lisbeth Salander role. The studio is continuing to search for an actor to play the Mikael Blomkvist role, played by Daniel Craig in the David Fincher film, and it's expected that they're looking to cast someone with the equivalent star power. Production on THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB is set to begin in September.

How would you feel about Claire Foy (or Felicity Jones or Lily James) taking on the role of Lisbeth Salander?

As a big fan of both the Swedish and English adaptations of the late Stieg Larsson's novels, I suppose I should be used to different actors taking on the roles. However, part of me was still foolishly holding out hope that we hadn't seen the last of Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara as Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander. Oh well.

THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB is set for a October 5, 2018 release.
