Clash of Titans director?

08.03.2007
I'm sure a lot of people are against the idea of remakes - especially when they concern a movie as beloved as CLASH OF THE TITANS - but I like to give new approaches a chance. Hell, the Nic Cage version of GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. However, I think whether you're for or against remakes, this news should make you feel a little better: it's being reported that the man to bring this project to the screen is none other than Sam Raimi.

If you haven't seen CLASH, it's the story of Perseus (the son of Zeus), who has to save Princess Andromeda from a monster, find the fabled winged horse Pegasus, defeat the Medusa and a bunch of other stuff that's all really cool. I guess now all we have to do is find someone who can fill Lawrence Olivier's shoes. That shouldn't be hard, huh?
Extra Tidbit: From an off-screen romance, Harry Hamlin and Ursula Andress (who co-starred in the original CLASH OF THE TITANS) had a child named Dimitri.

Its a good idea, only because the original isn't that great. It has some good parts, but as a whole, is kind of a snooze. But Anthony Hopkins or Brian Cox, or both (marketing ploy alert) would get me there. Have Hamlin play Calibos, or the mechanical owl.

Because Hamlin sucked in the original.

The one thing about this that makes me skeptical is the extent of Raimi's involvement. Is he directing, or just producing?

casting ?

Why not choose Harry Hamlin to play Zeus or Perseus old mentor ? Ursula Andress could play the goddess Hera....or.....the Medusa....?

Why not

There would be a _huge_ gap between Ray Harryhausen's clay animatronics, which I still find very entertaining, and CGI of today. So give it a shot.

Laurence Olivier was pretty average on screen and not the monster he was at plays.

I don't think there'll be much problem finding a good cast

I'm game for this. I love the original, but there was a lot of room for improvement, especially with Hamlin. As long as the script is solid, with today's effects, this should be a winner. C'mon, who doesn't want to see a kick-ass Medusa, Pegasus, and all the gods on the big screen?

Speaking of which, did anybody else find Maggie Smith in the original totally fuckable? Don't deny...

The problem isn't remakes, per se...

Hell, John Carpenter's classic "The Thing" IS a remake.

No, the problem is these pointless, mindless, scene-for-scene, line-for-line remakes (of movies that aren't that old to begin with) that Hollywood keeps dumping into the theatres.

That said, however, I'd rather that George Lucas had simply remade the original Star Wars trilogy instead of just mucking about with the originals, 'cause that's even MORE annoying.

The original was a guilty pleasure although Harry Hamlin's wooden acting got in the way several times. It could be fun, especially with Raimi at the helm. Bruce Campbell as Zeus? I'm there!

No, no, no, no and no. This is the worst idea for a remake I've heard yet (although I'm sure I'll be saying that again and again... especially if I make it to 50 and they start remaking the movies that are coming out now).
