High-Rise Ben Wheatley Clint Mansell Tom Hiddleston

Director Ben Wheatley's (KILL LIST, A FIELD IN ENGLAND) big screen adaptation of the J.G. Ballard novel High-Rise just keeps getting better and better. The movie already has a fantastic ensemble cast that includes Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Luke Evans, Sienna Miller and Elisabeth Moss, and Film Music Reporters has learned Clint Mansell will compose the music for the thriller.

Clint Mansell is best known for providing the scores for Darren Aronofsky's films, but he has also composed the music for other movies like MOON, FILTH and STOKER, and scored the video game Mass Effect 3. Mansell is one of my favorite film score composers, and I can't wait to listen to his HIGH-RISE score.

Synopsis for the J.G. Ballard book from Amazon:

When a class war erupts inside a luxurious apartment block, modern elevators become violent battlegrounds and cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on “enemy” floors. In this visionary tale, human society slips into violent reverse as once-peaceful residents, driven by primal urges, re-create a world ruled by the laws of the jungle.

As I've said before, HIGH-RISE sounds like THE RAID and SNOWPIERCER had a baby, and I'm very excited to see the first trailer for Ben Wheatley's new film. Wheatley is currently doing post-production work on HIGH-RISE, and the movie is expected to open sometime this year.

My only question is...why does a class war erupt?

The only films of his I have seen were Sightseers and Kill List and I thought they were quite bad. Hopefully this fares better.

Great news. Loved his score in Smokin' Aces, and Filth.

Shut up...

...and take my money!
Although I do think it's unfair Mansell always gets the credit for the great music in Mass Effect 3. He composed a fantastic piece of music for it, but it only lasts 3 minutes (maybe even less) the literal hours of music that fill up the rest of that game were composed by many lesser known but very talented composers such as Sam Huylick.

As if I needed another reason to anticipate this movie. You take what sounds like a pretty claustrophobic setting already, with maybe the most unsettling director since David Cronenberg, and get the thing scored by Clint Mansell, whose music never fails to get under my skin. I don't know much beyond the synopsis, and that it's set in the '70s, but it's already one of my more anticipated movies coming up.
