You know, there's something oddly unsettling in seeing the sparkling Lucasfilm logo after the Warner Bros. logo. Perhaps that's an insanely fanboyish thing to be weirded out by, but I gotta be honest here. And that's only about two seconds into the brand new trailer for STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS.

I think I realized my biggest problem with the animation is with how the humans are rendered, specifically Anakin and Obi-Wan. That's probably because I can deal with stylized versions of fantastical creatures like Jabba the Hutt and Yoda but actual actors comes off as odd to me. After the lashing its gotten from some of the people here, I was expecting much worse. If you watch it knowing that A, it was originally intended for television, and B, that this is basically the pilot for a cartoon series that's getting a vanity run in theaters, it's actually kinda cool. I'll be there.

Just to comment on some replies to my previous post.
Listen, kids, THX 1138 and American Graffitti happened decades ago. In recent years, all that Lucas has done includes SW and producing Indidan Jones. Now, I have nothing agains it, I love SW as much as the next guy, Indy too, but isn't it time for George to finally let go? Isn't it time for him to direct/produce/create something new? Or the money just looks too green this way?

This was supposed to be a tv show only, hence the sub-standard CGI? It was decided at a later date to throw it into theaters. The level of CG you are seeing in the trailer is the level you are going to see when the series hits television after the theatrical release.

I do agree..
That the animation could have been better i mean this ILM were talking about but it still looks decent enough. And people will complain about Star Wars/Lucas regardless of what he does. If you don't want to see it don't. But don't keep going on and on and on and on and on and on about it. The man is worth billions so apparently SOMEBODY out there likes his works.

I'm not complaining about designs, voices, or even story. I'm complaining purely about animation quality. This CG doesn't even look cinema-worthy. You get this kind of crap CG from Saturday...

The characters actually looks better animated than as the rather bland actors, specially the ones acting as Annakin and Obi-Wan. The bad scripts and lame dialog had a lot to blame for the actors blandness. Though this animation is a bit square and static, the faces got personalities. The cartoonishness makes the characters look more interesting. Specially the villains, they look nice. What...

I love Star Wars...I have zero interest in this.
This looks like such a giant waste of time on the big screen. I realize some will like this, but c'mon now really? I love you George, but you are really starting to push some of us. I know I'm not the only one either. And I hate all of the animation as others have said. It plain ol' looks creepy & cheap, no wonder it was meant to be on TV.

What I find unsettling is that this will be in theatres. I'm having a hard time accepting this as an actual star wars movie. With all the money and energy put into the two new star wars shows, Lucas should really do what everybody wants and make an episode 7. I think more people would be excited to see Han Luke and leia again than to see computer animated television shows based on the prequels...

american graffiti and thx-1138. what go look up what hes offered beyond just film. THX was developed so movie theaters could show return of the jedi in the best possible quality. Look at all the other advancements hes ushered. Terrible writer though... too bad, he did do american graffiti...

Agreed Mike, the stylization is a bit much.Much prefer Genndy Tartakovsky's 2d style over this, though it does have that feel-RIPOFF- about it.

Forget this steaming pile. After hearing about the disaster that is the new Terminator. Donnie Darko 2 next. Flooding memories of the horrible, tasteless Prequel trilogy is all that this aroused out of me. The concensus among the fans seems to be about the same. The only difference is you guys are saying you'll still see this turkey even though you don't won't to. Forget that fans....

Oh WELL another let down BUT...
Despite of how crappy it looks I will watch it anyway, probably with my little nephew. But seriously the last films left me desiring something more, this was not what I had in mind, but considering it wasn't done by Lucas per se, maybe the story and the action is actually good...despite of how crappy it looks. ( why couldn't they just do it PIXAR style if they were going animated?) PISSES ME...

It's tough to decipher if the majority of critics are negative because of what this is, or because of what this isn't going to be.



The character design isn't the priority here. I'd rather watch n animated film with "cartoonish" characters that has a great story, as opposed to a subpar story but realistic character designs. Don't get me wrong, I love detail in such films as...

Don't get me wrong, I love detail in such films as Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within, but if that's not the direction then it's certainly not going to be the end of the world.



Usually, a movie introduction to a TV series gets aired on a prime time slot. I am guessing that faith in the fanbase (Be it because of their interests or their wallets) is the sole reason why this is being released to theatres.



The important thing that people should take into account, is that this hasn't been presented to us on the same level as a Star Wars feature length film. All the more reason why we shouldn't be looking at it as such.

I didn't love the trailer, but I didn't hate it. As for the animation, each studio has their own style (pixar, dreamworks, etc) so i think this is just a different approach. While the human characters don't really impress me, i think it works great for some of the spaceship and battle scenes. I didn't care too much for the cartoon network animation for clone wars, but it seems to resemble...

Also, i agree it's very different to not see the 20th century fox logo in front of anything star wars.

I'm not going to be rushing out to see this, but I'm sure I'll watch it eventually. I hate being all negative, especially when talking about something Lucas - cause then you're branded as a upset fanboy or some nonsense. However, this is the best they could come up with?

that I'll see this in the theatre. Might wait until the DVD. The trailer was low-res. Maybe will change my mind when I can see a version with better resolution. Right now it looks like the animation found on most kids shows. No where near Pixar quality, but then again, isn't this supposed to become a TV series?
