Cloverfield to vampire

09.24.2008

Let's say that for your last directing effort, you crushed New York with a giant monster. How would you follow that? A remake? Some bloodsuckers?

No -- both. CLOVERFIELD director Matt Reeves is planning an Americanization of the outstanding Swedish vampire movie LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, which has been gathering accolades at festivals this year. Overture and the resurrected Hammer Films are handling the redo.

Reeves, one of JJ Abrams' "Bad Robot" gang, will also write the script. The original revolves around a vengeful young outcast who falls for his new neighbor, an unusual but captivating girl who turns out to be a vampire.

Before tackling the alternative to TWILIGHT, Reeves will make his thriller INVISIBLE WOMAN, about a former beauty queen who turns to a life of crime.

Extra Tidbit: Reeves co-wrote UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY.

Seriously

I'm sick of movies getting remade for reasons like: It was made more than 2 years ago so the effects suck, it doesn't star a huge box office actor (NIck Cage), younger generations won't watch the original because it was made too long ago, and it's a foreign film and nobody wants to read subtitles.

Come on, it's all about the almighty dollar instead of making quality films.

since the original is based on a novel, they could get away with saying this will be another adaptation, not a remake.
the original is worth a chance, btw.

Wait, so they're re-making, or "Americanizing" (which is just another fancy term for re-make) a flick that is currently on the festival circuit??

Jeez, way to give the original a chance.
