... make Green Hornet already!
by Sturdy

When Seth Rogen talked about the GREEN HORNET film that he and Evan Goldberg are working on, you could hear the enthusiasm and passion in his voice as he gave updates on the project. As weve seen from other directors and actors, passion is really the wildcard when it comes to making a film work. We know he has the talent and support to make a film like this and when you couple that with a passion, I think were going to be in for a treat.

I went through a Bruce Lee obsession about ten years ago and I watched every episode of the old Green Hornet TV show. I have to admit that I wasnt impressed. Bruce Lee did some cool shit, but overall, it was a bad show. It was very cheesy and the dialogue was unbearable. My point is that theres nothing sacred there. Its not like were remaking CASABLANCA or trying to bring an important show from our childhood to the big screen. Were talking about a bad 70s TV show and giving it to one of the funniest comedians working today.

Bruce Lee was great, but the show wasnt

Although Ive never met any of them, I know there are people out there that want this film to be a drama. I cant understand why, because I dont see any way that the GREEN HORNET would work as a drama. Its a guy wearing a green mask that relies heavily on his Asian sidekick. Thats comedy gold, my friends. Its not slapstick material, but in the hands of Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, it could be brilliant. They seem to understand the balance between comedy and action and can do it with interesting, genuine characters that we can relate to. This is really all you can ask for in a comedy-action (comaction?) film. Yesterday we got word that looks like this is really going to happen, and I for one, am excited for it.

I think Jet Li could be funny.

I guess the next question is who should play Kato. Stephen Chow seems to be the fan favorite and maybe even has the edge in getting the role. I think hed do fine, but Ive always been partial to Jet Li. Jet says he wants to do different things and this could be his chance. Hes played some slightly comedic characters in his Asian films and I think he could transition very nicely into the role of Kato. He also seems to have this bubbly personality that would work well with Seth Rogen. And dont even mention Jackie Chan. That would almost be enough for me to not see this movie.

This film is probably good practice for the GREEN HORNET

The next question is who should direct it. Why not Judd Apatow? Seriously. He has the rapport with Seth Rogen that will be necessary to do this kind of film. I think it needs someone that understands comedy and dialogue more than it needs someone that is an experienced action director. The other suggestion I have is Doug Liman, who impressed me with MR. AND MRS. SMITH. That had a good balance of action and comedy that would work well for Hornet, although Im assuming Hornet would have more comedy than Smith.

Whoever they choose, I have the utmost confidence in Rogen and Goldberg to do this right. I just hope everything goes as planned. Seth is open after he finishes the upcoming Sandler/Apatow project and thats the perfect time to swing into GREEN HORNET. So get the money, sign a director, hire the actors and lets get this thing going!

DON'T F**K THIS UP!

Enough with the Rogen "ass kissing" session. If this movie is for real, then Seth needs to get his a$$ on a tread mill and start filming. One other request, DO NOT go the way of Stiller's Starsky and Hutch! I was a huge fan of Starsky and Hutch until Stiller and Owen "the Nose" Wilson completely screwed that up. Anyone??

Hurrah for bigging up Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Everyone is hating on it but I loved it.

Agreed, Obmulap. Also people who are saying that Jet and Jackie are a bit old, Stephen Chow is a year older than Jet he just looks quite young

Yeah Jet Li would be good, but wouldn't the Kato outfit confuse people with the outfit he wore in Black Mask?

Flat out: Jet Li and Jackie Chan are amazing at what they do. But they are getting old.

Stephen Chow would be a good fit.

Does anybody else think Tony Jaa would have the comedic chops as Kato? He's young and can whoop a nuca's ass!!

don't make it modern though

just don't make the movie modern. make it take place in the 40s. we need more period pieces with a superhero twist ala The Shadow or The Phantom.

Actually can be serious

I think the film should be made seriously after seeing this:

[link]

I'm much more interested in an action/ crime drama with a 1920's feel to it. Rather than Rush Hour 4: Now they were masks.

Jackie

Yes, it's hard to be impressed with Chan if all you've seen is his american garbage.

Not fair to judge someone only on the work they've done way past their prime. Yes he's old, and maybe too far gone for this Kato role. But he's still the second best there ever was in kung-fu action.

Stephen Chow or Donnie Yen for Kato!

Jackie Chan...

Jackie Chan is used up and old. I was never impressed with Chan. I only watched his American films and all I really liked was Rumble in the Bronx (when I was younger) and the first two Rush Hours. Other then that, I have never liked him.

I wouldn't watch this movie either if Chan was in it.

Green Hornet?

Of all the great superhero films yet to be made, the Green Hornet has to be the lamest. Can you say Batman & Robin rip-off? Maybe if Todd Phillips does it like Starsky & Hutch!

Maybe your pal Spike Lee will tackle it, huh Sturdy? LOL! Rosie Perez as Kato!

I'm really looking forward to how this is going to turn out. I would love to see Chow and Li equally as Kato although isn't Chow a little on the tall side? Jackie Chan would be horrible, as much as I love him, but I think it's time he stepped out of the movie business ( at least in front of the camera ). I'm not so sure about Apatow having anything to do with this, for once I'd like to see Rogen do something without Apatow or the guys who brought us anything's name slapped all over it
