Colin Farrell confirms he’ll be in HBO’s True Detective season two!

The casting rumors for HBO's True Detective have been some of the most exciting to follow, given that season one brought out such amazing performances from those involved in the first season. Now, we have confirmation on at least one of those rumors, as Colin Farrell has clarified his involvement in season two to Sunday World:

"I'm doing the second series. I’m so excited. I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot. I know very little about it, but we’re shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great."

Farrell also gave a small tidbit on the story, saying it involves the "bloody murder of a corrupt city businessman found dead the night before a major transportation deal." That's consistent with the premise that's already been reported, so it sounds legit. The actor has been long-rumored for one of the three male leads of the show, mixed in with names like Taylor Kitsch, Vince Vaughn, Brad Pitt (which seems unlikely at this point), and Garrett Hedlund. Farrell will likely be playing the role of Ray Velcoro, who is described as having "been damaged by years of turmoil in both his personal and professional life."

There's still quite a bit more casting to be confirmed for the series, with the female lead role being one of the most prominent. Rumored names like Elizabeth Moss, Rachel McAdams, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, Kelly Reilly, Oona Chaplin, Brit Marling, and Jaimie Alexander are all scrapping it out for the role, which may be the most sought after female lead in TV right now. Rightfully so, as series creator Nic Pizzolato has more than proven that he's up to task in creating some magnetic and compelling characters for the show.

Director Justin Lin is rumored to be helming the first two episodes of the 8-episode season, which is expected to begin shooting soon with a fall 2015 debut. We'll continue to update as more casting is confirmed.
