Columbia Pictures might send Colin Farrell to Mars for the remake of Total Recall

Oct. 21, 2010by:

TOTAL RECALL was one of the first "WTF" movies I ever saw. It also introduced me to the concept of a woman/alien with three boobs.

Well just to throw it out there, TOTAL RECALL is being remade. This should be no surprise to you. But it looks like Colin Farrell is being considered for the lead. According to Heat Vision, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender are on the list as well.

Len Wiseman (UNDERWORLD, LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD) is the one directing the screenplay from Kurt Wimmer (SALT).

There's not a lot of details on this one. Paul Verhoeven's 1990 version was a loose adaptation of Philip K. Dick's We Can Remember It for You Wholesale. It's being said that Wiseman's version will be a "contemporized remake" that will follow the short story more closely. They are also hoping to start in March 2011.

After watching IN BRUGES and jumping back on the Colin Farrell bandwagon, I'll see the guy in anything. Except MIAMI VICE, which still scares me away everytime I see the DVD cover. However, I can't say that I'm thrilled about a reboot of TOTAL RECALL.

Are you?

Extra Tidbit: Seriously, with three boobs I'd never get any work done.

I loved Total Recall when I was a kid, and I'm okay with remaking it. But I'd much rather see Hardy or Fassbender in the lead than Farrell. Nothing against him personally, I just don't see it fitting him.

One problem with remaking it though: you just know the studio will push for PG-13, since Hollywood doesn't like making good R-rated movies anymore.

I love Colin and all, but

Farrell is my favorite actor, bar none. I would like to see him in an action role soon (what's wrong with Miami Vice?) However, to see him in a remake, essentially one icon replacing another just irritates me. For Crissake's get some original thought for once out there in Lala Land! I know his name was being kicked around for some sort of spy trilogy, but it's gone to the way side. And as much as I love Daniel Craig as James Bond, now that it is in limbo and if it takes too long he will begin

I'll confess to never seeing Total Recall. I do want to though. But keeping in mind this is a Philip K. Dick short story, and that Schwarzenegger was probably a far cry from anything Dick would've imagined for a protagonist. Frankly, I'd watch him, Fassbender, or Hardy in almost anything nowadays. But I think if they changed it back to the original short-story title, it'd save a lot of unnecessary comparisons.

Colin Farrell in a Total Recall remake??... Well there goes my hopes in believing this remake might turn out to be good. But if they get Tom Hardy, I'm back on.

Even just switching Arnold for Colin in a shot for shot remake would make this a pretty different film. I'm not going to say Farrell would've sprung to mind as my choice for this remake, but he's been good in some films, and with modern effects this could still be worth making/seeing. The original is a classic - they just don't make films with such wonderfully unnecessary levels of violence any more. Verhoeven is pretty much the king when it comes to that era of uber-violent action films.

It sounds like they're going to follow the book more than the movie, so why even bother calling it Total Recall?

I'm not even a fan of the original, so I'm not interested in this.

I'd rather have Adrien Brody in the role. But the again, he's already doing that other movie with a similar plot.

I'm getting tired of you fucking LOSERS that are ALWAYS saying, "You're living in the past" every time they do a remake. ESPECIALLY the Schwarzenegger remakes. Get over yourselves. You're all the little douches that hate him or for some retarded reason love remakes. Personally, I KNOW Arnie isn't/wasn't the best actor, but he IS the best/one of the best action stars of ALL TIME!

Now, STOP REMAKING HIS CLASSICS! They ALWAYS suck, and ALWAYS will! Just like Conan will fail, so will this. What

Total Recall is nothing but a cheesy, VERY dated, bastardized version of classic novella. I welcome the news of a remake that will follow Dick's classic more to-the-letter.

If someone gave me two options. 1. Watch Miami Vice and 2. Stick my balls in a bench vice then I would have two questions for them. How big is said vice and what colour?

Colin Farrel no...... Tom Hardy yes.

You guys really need to stop looking at the past through this magical lens. Have you seen Total Recall lately? It blows. When the strongest thing in a movie is Schwarzenegger's acting, its time to re-assess the movie. And Verhoven is the directorial equivalent of a shock jock. But you guys like 3D and Jackass so keep up the same tired arguments.

yeah i just saw it. Its aesome. it's not shocking at all. It was more of the 80s. It has a strong story a strong role for arnold where i'm not confused as to why he is so big... and cool effects. No one can ever remake that movie, it's perfect. Have you seen it recently???

#1 If it were a bad movie, I wouldn't like it. Period. That's the end of it.

#2 Nobody is focusing on yesterday, but we want something NEW. Not the same rehashed stories remade again and again and again.

Personally I loved Miami Vice because I know the serious style to action Michael Mann brings to the table. It's not Michael Bay so everyone whines because there's a bit more character development. The sad thing is you can tell the studio got their dirty little mitts on it and I think Mann just gave up. I won't watch anything other than the Director's Cut and even still I think he wanted to do more. I would be up for a sequel too if it happened in the next couple years, but alas, Hollywood

Not interested.

But I have a feeling it will look cool and have a standalone story that will make me wonder, why not just give it a different title?

Remakes... ok...

I'm usually ok with remakes. I mean, so another film maker has something to stay about the material.

An audience can take it or leave it.

For me, regardless of what this new film becomes-- good or bad-- it won't prevent me from popping in my Criterion Collection DVD of Total Recall from time to time to enjoy this bit of sci-fi awesomeness.

What can I say that my fellow schmoes haven't said before? Totally agree with their points of view. I like Colin Farrell, but I love Total Recall very much and think it's a very uneeded remake. Let me guess, it's going to be PG13...

What A Day

First, I hear that there is going to be gay scenes between men in the new Alien prequel, and now they are going to rape a great movie by remaking it with Colin Farrell. I like Farrell, but not for this film. I can get on board with Hardy though.

Even though I have no interest in the remake really, the chance of having the director of the Underworld movies, and having Farrell and Tom Hardy all in one movie sounds great.
