Comedy's Dream Team?

02.11.2009
This may not be the top five comedic stars working in Hollywood today, but it comes close. Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider and Kevin James are tapped to star in an untitled comedy for Columbia, written by Sandler and DICKIE ROBERTS: FORMER CHILD STAR scribe Fred Wolf. Dennis Dugan of DON'T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN fame is set to direct.

Clearly I can think of a few guys who I'd rather see team up with Rock and Sandler, but I think that Schneider, Spade and James might actually work. The five stars will play best friends from high school who reunite 30 years later on a Fourth of July weekend. Not bad, right? They've all worked together before, although they've never all starred in the same film. Perhaps this will be a case of the stars aligning to create something truly special. Or perhaps it will be a bunch of meaningless fart jokes. Only time will tell, I guess.

Extra Tidbit: Anyone have any ideas for the film's potential title?

Genetic Carnage

a. Bowfinger was great, so I'm not going to include it in this "argument," but lets take a second and look at Eddie Murphy's collective supporting cast in the others: Randy Quaid, Eddie Griffin, Cuba Gooding Jr., Thandie Newton, Eddie Murphy in a fat suit, Gabrielle Union, Elizabeth Banks...

now the fact of the matter is that these actors aren't worthless (Besides Quaid), but they are random. Before Eddie Murphy would take every paycheck he could sign onto, he made quality films...Get 5

Axel Foley? Prince Akeem? wtf are you talking about?

And hey Academy... yes, let's go with "Listen to their stand up, they're awesome!" Take your own advice, go watch Eddie Murphy's Raw, then proceed to watch Pluto Nash, Bowfinger, Norbit, and Meet Dave. Then, by all means come back here with that arguement.

If it's good, we'll call it "Tropic Thunder 2." If it's utter shit, we'll call it "I Play One Fucking Character In Every One of My Movies," starring the guy who screams and makes black jokes, the guy who is a ten year old angry kid inside, but with a heart of gold, the guy who used to be funny with Chris Farley, Adam Sandler's friend that plays the oddball retards that make Adam Sandler look normal, and the "fat goofy guy." I know I'm excited.

This is going to be another Wild Hogs. A bunch of washed up 90's stars desperate for another successful film.

I'll stick with the Appatow gang.

FUCK EVERYONE HERE

old snl is way better than new SNL. Yeah, they have some flops but I;d go with these 4 + Kevin James (Chuck and Larry was funny) over Team Apatow anyday. I like the bromance movies just as much as the next guy, but I'm all about Happy Madison.

Plus, listen to Rock and Spade stand-up. They're my two favorites of ALL TIME.

The only one halfway funny out of those guys is Chris Rock, and his movies usually suck. One of the funnist guys around now is Danny McBride. Sandler's never made me laugh even once, and whoever thinks he's funny needs to go see the Wizard for a brain. It's horrible that talentless idiots like he is get overly paid so much, when someone like a teacher gets barely anything. Maybe they should all team up (the five you listed) and make a movie about how terrible they all really are. That might

I think the cast could work, but the writer/director team doesnt seem to encourage a lot of confidence

Sandler is hit and miss for me.
i loved his older movies like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, also Punch-Drunk Love is one of my favorites.
he isn't washed up as much as he just doesn't pick the right roles.
i'm really excited for Funny People though, Apatow seal of approval!

Imo Jack Black, Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler don't even come close to Jim Carrey, who's not only one of the most impressive comedians out there (still is), but in first place a terrific actor.

And Ben Stiller? Naaah, that's not a comedian. He's someone who walks around in funny movies ... he just falls down, makes oogabooga-words and falls down again.

No, not the top five comedic actors in Hollywood. In fact I've been trying to figure out who those would be and the best I could come up with are (alphabetical order):

- Jack Black
- Jim Carrey
- Will Ferrell
- Adam Sandler
- Ben Stiller

I was kind of iffy on Carrey but I know he still makes like $15 Million a movie and he's still relatively in demand (got three upcoming projects). I almost put Will Smith instead (since he IS the biggest movie star in the world), but honestly Smith

He did Hancock but his last comedy beforer that was back in 2005 with Hitch.

No sale

Poor Chris Rock... Lost in the middle of a bunch of washed up comedians (Sandler, Spade) or all-around hacks (James, Scheider). Sounds more like Wild Hogs than Three Amigos.

has potential

Zohan was kinda lame though, but we'll have to see the final product.

They're capable of doing witty, clever comedy, so i just hope they take advantage of that
