Confucius trailer

Sep. 3, 2009by: Paul Tassi

Well, this is rather unexpected to say the least. Out of nowhere, Chinese site Sina has debuted the first trailer for Chow Yun-Fat’s CONFUCIUS , a project I barely remember existing, which features three minutes of soulful cello and zero seconds of dialogue.

Though the film looks to be beautifully shot, and one can imagine well-acted, I can’t help but fear it’s going to be well, boring. I picture it being like all of the talking parts of HERO and CROUCHING TIGER, but without any awesome martial arts battles interspersed throughout to liven things up.

See what I mean for yourself below:

Extra Tidbit: Can someone place the cello song that's in the first half of the trailer? I know it's from something else.

Better than I expected

Is this being released in December for Oscar consideration? Because it looks like the kind of film that would make people sit up and take notice.

Keep in mind that Confuscious was a teacher so most of the film will take place in classrooms. It looks as though the movie will also deal with the fate of at least one of his students. (The story goes that one of his students asked if he thought staging a revolution against the emperor would be a good idea. KFZ said it wouldn't be, the student

Ummmm-I've always had an interest in the work (and all that entails) of Confucius-this film I hope to see (probably on dvd)-but the trailer maybe shows too much? I think we all pretty much now know the film start to finish after seeing this...

The Cello

The cello is, I believe, from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. By Yo-Yo Ma. Good stuff.

Well, Chow Yun-Fat's a great actor (although, to be honest, I kinda prefer his comedic roles to his serious ones), and though the trailer doesn't really say much about the story, the cinematography looks pretty damn good. Unless the reviews are absolutely horrible, I'll probably see it.

Not everything has to be martial arts and explosions to keep the A.D.D. kids awake between tweeting, texting, Facebook updates and gaming on their Jesus phones. A lot of us adults actually like movies that have story instead of just being comprised of 'shit that blows up'.

Oh no doubt, but Crouching Tiger and Hero had a great story WITH action. I'm not at all saying this will be bad, but there is such a thing as TOO slow.

...and I realize I'm not helping myself here with my 300 avatar.

Thanks. That's what I thought, but it seemed too obvious.
