Cool Pics From Around the Web: Sam Shepard, Han Solo droid, Ragnarok kiss

This week's roundup of cool pics from the week includes several BTS looks from movies new and old, including BEFORE SUNSET, the editing bay of RAMPAGE and Ron Howard giving some much needed direction to a droid on the HAN SOLO movie. As well, this last week saw the passing of movie and theater legend Sam Shepard, and several celebrities took to Twitter to share their goodbyes, including Diego Luna and Sam Taylor-Johnson.

#tbt to Captain America: The First Avenger. In the early days of Marvel Studios I had a lot of time to work on pieces like this. This was done before a script and cast and it was basically me in a room for a few months trying to come up with cool ideas for a Captain America movie. It was a lot of fun, but a lot of pressure because of course there was always the worry that they wouldn't like anything I had worked on in that time! I have quite a few black and white images like this and it's actually how I start a lot of my paintings. I am hugely influenced by illustrators from the early 20th century, like Norman Rockwell and J.C. Leyendecker and I was hoping to catch just a little bit of their style in a piece like this. I'd never even considered acting as a career until I read Buried Child in college. Before then I'd assumed theatre was about loving the spotlight and speaking to friends like a chimney sweep. Sam Shepard showed me there's potential for poetry on every level… writing, performance, direction and design. He let me know some characters hate the spotlight. He showed me that there are some ridiculous and cool-as-hell ways to tell the truth. Dear Sam, Thanks for swingin by the rock for 70 years and changing things for the better forever. I love you, dude.

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, actor and Academy member Sam Shepard made his mark on films such as "Days of Heaven," "Steel Magnolias" and "The Right Stuff," for which he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1984. On the screen and on the page, Sam was an original. He will be missed.
