Cool Stone interview

10.09.2008

Oliver Stone A few reviews for Oliver Stone's George W. Bush biopic W. have trickled online and the general consensus seems to be that the film is quite…surprising. Not that it's a masterpiece or sucks goat tits but that it paints quite the fair portrait of ole Dubya, despite the sometimes broad characterizations. Having said that, the cool peeps over at "Maxim" recently conducted a cool interview with Stone where he's surprisingly candid about the film, the public perception of him and his penchant for politically motivated films. Says the filmmaker: "Look…I did three Vietnam movies, and what good did they do? People still lined up in support of the Iraq war. People don’t remember. It shows you the futility of what we do. But we do it." Indeed, sir. Read the rest of what he had to say over HERE. Dubya's life get splashed on the big screen October 17th.

Extra Tidbit: Stone was attached to direct AMERICAN PSYCHO when Leonardo DiCaprio was attached to play Patrick Bateman. He left the project as soon as DiCaprio left.

grammar nazis are just the writer's who value their work the most. people who rant on fifths of booze are typically not that good unless they love their grammar as well.

I like how all the red comments contain blatant grammar and spelling issues. Not saying this means anything, just making an observation. I'm neutral on this one.

Mandingo...any great movies? Not mentioning the ones you don't like, there's Salvador, Wall Street, Born on the Fourth of July (Tom Cruise's greatest performance), Nixon...yeah, there's some great ones.

Beenthere...the French-Jews were infected by the deceased? Is there a country of zombies I don't know about?
As for the actual article here, I believe he's trying to say that despite making three Vietnam War movies depicting the horrors of war, we've yet again rallied behind this war that

As for the actual article here, I believe he's trying to say that despite making three Vietnam War movies depicting the horrors of war, we've yet again rallied behind this war that should never been without thinking of the reasons or consequences. No, I'm sure he's not "suggesting there shouldn't be any wars on Earth". Some are necessary. Most aren't.

What a moron!

Is he suggesting there shouldn't be any wars on Earth because he made anti-war movies?
Listen, you, shameful putz, that what happens to the nice French-Jewish guys when they got infected by the decease called Marxism.

In my opinion Platoon is one of the all-time great war movies. None of the other Vietnam films capture the realism and paranoia of jungle warfare like it did. Apocalypse Now is the best Vietnam film bar none, but Platoon is number two in my book.

Confession: Stanley Kuberick is my all-time favorite director, but I even like Platoon better than Full Metal Jacket.

Just watched Platoon again last night, and I really miss the old Oliver Stone. Don't get me wrong, with the exception of Alexander I manage to find something interesting in all his films, but none of his more recent projects have really impressed me. Unfortunately, I don't think W. will break that trend.

I hope W is as insightful film as NIXON. When given proper material and not stroking his own ego, Stone can create powerfully visceral films. Given U-TURN & NBK, AMERICAN PSYCHO could've been a pretty wild flick, but I doubt it would've worked with DiCaprio at the time.

I'm glad he never directed "American Psycho", I thought Mary Harron did a good job. And DiCaprio would've been a shitty Patrick Bateman. That's as good as an outcome as Brad Pitt not being in "The Fountain".

Stone looks fucking ridiculous in that pic, too.
