Martin Scorsese is my favorite director with talents and contributions to the world of cinema that will inspire and be studied until the Sun explodes. Given that his next film is titled SILENCE, it’s appropriate that movie lover Tony Zhou has a video essay examining Martin Scorsese's use of silence in his movies.
You wouldn't think about silence when it comes to a Scorsese movie because there is usually a fantastic soundtrack accompanying it. As it turns out Scorsese also has a history of making silence work for him too. From RAGING BULL to THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, there are key moments and scenes that take away all sound and leave us with varying emotions.
As Zhou says, take a glimpse at fifty years of this simple technique from one of cinema's masters.
WARNING: SPOILERS for SHUTTER ISLAND, SUPERMAN (1978) AND MAN OF STEEL.
